Wheels Down on Airport Plan

A new plan for our local airport moves forward on the runway. The airport continues to collect information about a new project. There was a listening session was last week but no action was taken, just the Airport Commission listening. The next step is reviewing the neighborhood comments with the state and federal agencies that provide oversight and funding for the project before a final plan can be approved by the Airport Commission. Lawmakers Hear Arguments Against Report Cards

Wisconsin schools are going to get the chance to make the bid that their grades shouldn’t count against them. Lawmakers have a hearing today on a number of proposed laws and rules dealing with public schools in the state. One of those deals with school accountability reports. School leaders have said for months that coronavirus disruptions have made it difficult or impossible to see just where students are, compared to where they should be.

Adjusted Foxconn Deal Promises Less

The new deal with Foxconn promises just 14-hundred jobs and 80-million-dollars in state subsidies. Governor Evers yesterday announced the new agreement, and said it will save taxpayers over two-point-seven-billion-dollars. But outside of roads and sewers, Foxconn never received any of the three-billion-dollars in incentives it was promised under the old deal with former Governor Walker. Rodgers Had Playbook for Ratings Boost

Aaron Rodgers helped bring some eyeballs to the TV during his stint as Jeopardy guest host. A number of reports yesterday said ratings jumped 14- percent with Rodgers at the podium. His episodes did far better than Doctor Oz but were not as good as Ken Jennings’ time as guest host. Rodgers had a five-point-six- rating, compared to Jennings’ six-point-two, and Doctor Oz’s five-point-two.

Gavel Drops in MN: Guilty on All Counts

A jury has found Derek Chauvin guilty in the death of George Floyd.  Today the jury convicted the former Minneapolis police officer of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter for kneeling on Floyd’s neck during an arrest last May, causing his death.  It took the jury about 12 hours over two days to reach its verdict. The second-degree murder charge carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison, but Minnesota sentencing guidelines say someone with no prior conviction

WI DHS Reporting 800+ Daily Coronavirus Cases

Funding To Pay for COVID-19 Testing in High Schools

Governor Tony Evers says the state is receiving millions of dollars to pay for COVID-19 testing in high schools.  The funding announced today will offer voluntary testing to students, teachers and staff.  People under the age of 16 are not yet eligible for the vaccine in Wisconsin but there is concern about the new coronavirus variants and the need to test for them.  The federal funding amounts to 175 million dollars.

Badgers Bounce On

The Wisconsin Badgers survived a five-set battle against the Florida Gators to advance to the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Final Four.  The Badgers earned victories in the first, third and final set of yesterday’s match in Omaha, Nebraska.  The Badgers will now face fourth-ranked Texas in one semi-final on Thursday.  The other semi-final features number-two Kentucky against the number-six Washington Huskies.

Statewide Turkey Hunt Opens

The spring turkey hunt opens statewide tomorrow.  Officials say last spring over 130-thousand people applied for the hunt.  Hunting turkeys is second only to deer hunting in popularity in Wisconsin.  During the six weeks of turkey hunting season last spring more than 45-thousand birds were harvested.
