City Council Talks Bike Speed, Proposed Ordinance

Eau Claire city council members will be discussing a proposed bike ordinance at today’s public hearing.  The ordinance seeks to impose a speed limit of 15 miles per hour for e-bikes, scooters and skateboards riding on trails and sidewalks.  Council member Joshua Miller tells 13 News he’s received multiple complaints about electronic transportation devices going too fast on the sidewalk.  Residents can voice their opinion at today’s meeting. CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE WITH WEAU 13 NEWS.

Strum Business Damaged in Fire

No one is injured after crews put out a structure fire Sunday evening.  Officials say it took place at Koxlien Brothers Wood Products in Strum.  A majority of the sawmill structure is considered a complete loss.  Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Overdose Prevention Workshop Planned

The Eau Claire Health Department will be hosting an overdose prevention workshop this coming Thursday.  Residents will learn how to identify potential overdoses as well as how to respond quickly with Narcan.  It’ll take place at the L.E. Alice in Marathon, Finals Pick a Home

The Alice in Dairyland Finals are coming to Marathon County next year.  The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection announced Friday that the 79th edition of the annual event would take place from May 14th to the 16th.  The position of “Alice in Dairyland” involves educating the public about agriculture in Wisconsin.  Marathon County was chosen to host because of its rich history and rolling hills.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources wants hunters to remember these important tips ahead of deer hunting season.  Officials say it’s important to place tree stands with caution as some trees may be structurally weaker.  They also recommend using a full-body harness as well as having three points of contact while climbing into and out of the tree stand.  To identify trees infested with emerald ash borer, hunters can look for opposite branching patterns on the trunk.

Triple Murder Suspect Bound Over for Trial

A man accused of triple murder is being bound over for trial on charges.  Virgil Thew of New Lisbon is accused of killing his live in girlfriend, his 12-year-old stepdaughter, and her 13-year-old friend.  The three were found deceased in December and Thew was on the run for almost two weeks before he was taken into custody.  He faces life in prison if convicted.

WI Sees Measles Cases

Five more cases of measles have been detected in Wisconsin.  Octonto County Health says the cases are linked to nine other cases that were confirmed on August 2.  The total number of measles cases in Wisconsin this year is now at 14.  The Department of Health Services is working with the County to contact people who may have been exposed.

Damage Assessment, Cleanup Continues

FEMA officials are reporting nearly one-thousand flood damage cases throughout Washington County. This follows the agency’s ongoing tour of the area to assess eligibility for federal disaster aid. Flood-related damage in areas such as West Bend, Germantown, and Richfield is estimated in the tens of millions of dollars. County authorities have placed free, temporary dumpsters at the former UW-Washington County campus, available through Monday.
