Daily Coronavirus Cases Reported at 375+

The Department of Health Services is reporting 376 new COVID-19 cases statewide over the last day.  That pushes the total number of cases to just under 609-thousand.  There were eight confirmed coronavirus deaths in the last 24 hours, which raises the death toll to over 69-hundred. Tragic Lawnmower Accident in Seymour

On May 24th at approximately 11:15pm Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Deputies, Township Fire, and Eau Claire Fire/EMS were dispatched to an address on North 67th Avenue in the Town of Seymour for an EMS incident. A 66 year-old male had been cutting grass at his home at an unknown time when the riding mower tipped, pinning him underneath. Special Session, Short Short Order

A special session of the Wisconsin Legislature ended in short order.  The Republicans who control the legislature convened today and immediately ended the special session.  Governor Tony Evers called the session in the hopes of claiming a billion-and-a-half-dollars in federal funding available in the COVID stimulus bill to expand Medicaid.  The Senate and the Assembly had no intention of taking up the measure so they wrapped up their business in less than a minute.

One Suspect Pleads Guilty to Killing Professor and Spouse

A man accused of killing a UW-Madison professor and her husband is pleading guilty today.  Alijah Larrue pleaded guilty to murder and kidnapping in the deaths of Doctor Beth Potter and Robin Carre in March of last year.  Larrue was accused of helping Khari Sanford kill the couple who were discovered by a jogger shot near the UW Arboretum.  The couple was the adoptive parents of Sanford’s girlfriend.

 Water safety is top of mind for first responders as the Memorial Day Weekend approaches.  The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding boaters to wear life jackets.  There have been six deaths in boating accidents in Wisconsin already this year.  Officials say none of the boaters were wearing life jackets.

The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is seeking assistance in locating a dog that bit a 10 year old boy, Sunday, May 23rd, 2021, at approximately 3:00 p.m. The bite occurred on Birch Street near Deyo Avenue. The victim was walking westbound on the north side sidewalk with two other males in Eau Claire, WI. The person walking the dog was described as a white male in his 50’s, around 6 ft. tall. George Floyd’s Family Creates Fund To Benefit Area Where He Died

George Floyd’s family is creating a fund to help businesses and community groups in the area where he died.  The family is putting half a million dollars toward the effort that’ll benefit the area of 38th and Chicago in Minneapolis.  That’s where Floyd died after Derek Chauvin put his knee on Floyd’s neck for several minutes.  Chauvin was convicted of Floyd’s death last month.  The donation comes after the city agreed to pay 27-million dollars to Floyd’s family as part
