Tulsa Race Massacre Marks 100 Years

President Biden visits Oklahoma today to mark the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre.  NBC’s Tracie Potts reports. Hundreds of Black Americans were killed, their businesses destroyed.  President Biden issued a proclamation yesterday to commemorate the anniversary and to “celebrate the bravery and resilience of those who survived and sought to rebuild their lives again.”  Additional audio: NBC’s Tracie Potts has more on the aftermath of the massacre.

Hilltop Lounge New Site for Antigen Testing

The antigen testing clinic for COVID-19 has moved from McPhee and is now located in the Hilltop Lounge at UW-Eau Claire for all Blugolds and community members. For unvaccinated Blugolds, COVID testing is required once a week for students in campus housing and every other week for all other students, staff and faculty. Vaccinated individuals do not need to be tested unless symptoms arise. “WOOD” You Believe It’s Back?

After being closed for over a year, the Wisconsin Logging Museum in Carson Park will reopen to the public on June 3rd, 2021. Standard safety procedures and new summer hours will be in place.  The Wisconsin Logging Museum closed in March of 2020 following CDC recommendations. Airbnb Mishap in MKE

A Wisconsin teenager is lucky to be forgiven after breaking into an Airbnb where three sheriff’s deputies were staying.  Deputies from Montana posted their experience on Tik-Tok, saying they came back to their Airbnb in Milwaukee over the weekend to find a 19-year-old asleep in the house.  The Montana deputies were in Milwaukee for some emergency vehicle training.  They say they forgave the uninvited teen, noting he was drunk and made a mistake.

Police are collecting non-perishable food donations this week during a Cram the Cruiser event. Chippewa Falls Police say June 5th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., officers will be in the Family Fare parking lot collecting items. Donations are going to the L.E. Philips CDC Outreach Office.

Altoona Unveils Veterans Memorial

Memorial Day saw the latest piece of Altoona’s veterans memorial unveiled. A large crowd was there to watch the official dedication of the second phase of the memorial yesterday. The Chippewa Valley Veterans Foundation’s Eric Killen says it is almost ‘indescribable’ to say what the new memorial means to local veterans. The latest phase includes statues of two soldiers, the flags from all six armed forces branches, legacy stones that honor veterans, and a statue that honors gold star mothers.

Investigation Continues into Sparta Fire

Firefighters in Sparta say nearly two-dozen dogs and cats died in a weekend fire. The fire broke out Sunday afternoon at a home just outside of Cataract on County Highway I. There was not much damage from the fire, but smoke filled the house. Firefighters say 14 adult dogs and 12 puppies died from smoke inhalation. They say two cats also died. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fond du Lac Co. Deputies Investigate Death of a Baby

Deputies in Fond du Lac County are looking into the death of a five-month-old baby. The sheriff’s office says someone called 911 yesterday morning about a baby that wasn’t breathing. While dispatchers tried to walk the caller through CPR, deputies rushed to the home in Calumet to check on the baby. When deputies arrived, they declared the baby dead. No one is offering any specifics about the baby’s death or the investigation in general.

WI Coronavirus Cases Hit New Low

The 186 people in the hospital with the coronavirus in Wisconsin is the lowest hospitalization-count in the state’s history. The Wisconsin Hospital Association yesterday said the current numbers are the lowest since they started tracking hospitalizations last April. Wisconsin’s hospitalizations peaked at over 22-hundred people back in November.
