Budget Back and Forth Continues at WI Capitol

Governor Tony Evers is threatening to scuttle the state’s next budget. The governor yesterday said he may veto the 40-billion-dollar-plus spending plan because it doesn’t spend enough on schools. New Plan Focuses on Absentee Ballots

Only voters or witnesses would be able to change their ballots under the latest plan to move forward at the Wisconsin Capitol. A state Assembly panel yesterday advanced a plan that clarifies that election workers in the state would not be able to fix mistakes on absentee ballots. Next A.D. On Deck

A Badger alum and Pewaukee native is reportedly going to be Wisconsin’s next athletic director. The State Journal is reporting that Chris McIntosh will get the job later today. McIntosh was a four-year starter for UW football and was part of two Big Ten championship teams. He’s been a deputy athletic director since 2017, and was Barry Alvarez’s choice. McIntosh would replace Alavarez who’s been A-D since 2004. UW Regents are set to approve McIntosh at their meeting this morning.

EC City Co. Health Seeks Dog After Bite Incident

The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is seeking assistance in locating a dog that bit a woman, Monday, May 24th, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m. The bite occurred on the 1000 block of W. Hamilton Avenue. The dog was described as a medium sized terrier type breed with short, white hair. WI Daily Coronavirus Cases Hit New Low

Masks Come Off, Vaccines Continue in WI Counties

Masks are no longer required in most state buildings.  About two weeks ago, Governor Evers set today as the target to end mask requirements as the state continues to follow the recommendations from the CDC.  People who are fully vaccinated can go without masks and for the most part do not have to maintain social distancing indoors or outdoors.  However, all unvaccinated people are advised to wear a mask or face covering in state facilities. Neenah Plant Announces Closure

 A production plant in Neenah that employs 300 people is closing.  Clearwater Paper announced today it is moving away from the home tissue business but did not state its new direction.  It plans to exit the tissue business by the end of July.  Officials say they will be meeting with the union and the Department of Workforce Development to make sure employees receive benefits and training to find other work.
