Rock Hunt Rocks for Chippewa Valley Youth

The RCU Foundation is adding a new contest to encourage families to get out and explore their communities and to promote Rock the Riverfront featuring the Charity Classic.  The Youth Rock Hunt is a scavenger hunt that kids can participate in by searching for specially engraved rocks for a chance to win a Royal Credit Union Piggy Bank and $40 cash.  The Youth Rock Hunt starts on the morning of June 11, 2021 and is sponsored by Market & Johnson.

Wisconsin lawmakers want to tighten-up the voter ID rules for absentee voters and limit the use of ballot dropboxes, but Governor Evers is saying ‘No.’ The governor yesterday promised to veto any of the election reform laws that come from the Republican-controlled legislature. The governor says he doesn’t want to make it more difficult for anyone in the state to vote. Veto Pen Ready at WI Capitol

Add this to the list of doomed plans from Wisconsin lawmakers. Both the Assembly and Senate yesterday approved a plan to withdraw the state from the federal government’s enhanced unemployment benefit program. Republicans in the legislature say the extra 300 dollars-a-week that the program provides is keeping too many people from returning to work. It will not become law, however. Governor Evers yesterday said he ‘can’t imagine’ signing it.

You’ve Got Mail

Chippewa County Public Health is handing out COVID information to every single household in the county.  In a news conference, Public Health Director Angela Weideman says a state grant funded the cost of tens of thousands of flyers that provided the phone number of the health department and vaccine locations.  The department is also sending out letters to people who have received at least one dose, to remind them and encourage them to complete the vaccination series.

Wausau Plans “WOWsa” for 4th

It’s not the big fireworks display, but Wausau is taking a step back toward normal for the Fourth of July. The city yesterday announced plans for a concert on the city’s square. Wausau canceled its fireworks celebration at Marathon Park, planners said there wasn’t enough time to put together a show. The concert on the 4th will feature the band Almost Normal, and will run from 6 p.m. til 8 p.m.
