The man accused of kidnapping a teenager is pleading not guilty to child abduction and enticement charges.  Gary Day allegedly kidnapped 16-year-old Sophia Franklin in February, and was with her until her 17th birthday in April when they were found at a Nebraska gas station.  Day was already under investigation for child related crimes when the kidnapping happened.  His next court date is set for October 7th.

A suspect is in custody following a shooting incident Tuesday at a La Crosse park.  Police responded to Pettibone Park at a little after 10 a.m. with reports that someone was firing a gun.  Forty-year-old Jared Duddles was taken into custody.  No one was hurt.

Charges are being filed against the owner of a St. Croix Falls cat rescue.  Investigators raided the home of 70-year-old Myrna Westen earlier this month and arrested her.  They say she took in more cats than she was able to handle.  According to prosecutors, Westen mistreated, failed to feed and killed a number of cats.  Westen is due back in court next month.

Preliminary numbers show about one-hundred-thousand people attended this year’s Northern Wisconsin State Fair.  The 2025 installment of the five-day fair in Chippewa Falls concluded on Sunday.  Fair officials say that more people attended the event this past Saturday than have attended the fair on any other single day in the last 17 years. 

Eau Claire-founded software company Jamf is announcing plans to cut an estimated six-point-four percent of its full-time workforce.  The company, now headquartered in Minneapolis, says the staff reductions are being done in part to improve operational efficiency.  The company plans to lay out more than eleven-million dollars to cover the costs of severance packages and benefits for departing workers.

Authorities are announcing revised plans to tear down the Lansing Bridge.  The span crossing the Mississippi River connects Lansing, Iowa with Crawford County, Wisconsin.  The Iowa and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation say the bridge will come down this fall and a replacement bridge will be constructed in 2027.

Wisconsin communities are getting more than 174-million-dollars for road improvements.  The money comes from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and is included in the 2025-2027 state budget.  Most of the money will go to local governments, while four-million-dollars will go to highway improvements, and about 250-thousand will go to Milwaukee County for expressway policing.

  The Amtrak Borealis route has officially served 250-thousand riders. The route runs between Chicago and the Twin Cities with 11 stops in Wisconsin, including Milwaukee and La Crosse. The 250-thousand rider milestone was reached over the Fourth of July weekend. The Borealis route started its daily service in May 2024.

A two-million-dollar Powerball ticket sold in Superior is the second multi-million dollar ticket sold in Wisconsin in two weeks. The Wisconsin Lottery says the ticket was sold at the Harbor View Super One on East Second Street, and won during Saturday’s drawing. Another two-million-dollar ticket sold in Appleton won over the Fourth of July weekend. Since the tickets included the one-dollar Power Play feature, one-million-dollars in original winnings were doubled for each ticket. The winners will have 180 days from
