R.I.P Big Jake

Big Jake has passed away. The Guinness Book of World Records named Jake the world’s tallest horse back in 2010. He was born in  Nebraska, but lived on a farm in Poynette. Big Jake was big, he measured six feet-10 inches tall, and weighed 25 hundred pounds. He was 20-years-old.

Paddle Boarders Rescued in Whitefish Bay

Two paddle borders are okay after being rescued from Lake Michigan in Whitefish Bay.  Authorities got a call from a woman around 10:00 last night saying she and a friend were stranded on the lake.  Police used a ping of her cell phone and a drone from local police to locate the pair.  They were rescued by agents with the Department of Natural Resources.

Amazon’s top boss is stepping down as CEO today.  But Jeff Bezos won’t be leaving the tech giant.  He’ll stay on as an executive chair on the company’s board.  The 57-year-old is the world’s richest person, with an estimated fortune of 197-billion dollars.  He’ll be the second billionaire to complete a spaceflight this month.  He’ll blast off with his brother and an anonymous auction winner on July 20th.

Reducing the Traffic Jams at Country Jam

To help ensure an orderly flow of traffic into and out of the festival, taxi, Uber, Lyft and taxi drivers will be required to obtain a windshield sticker from the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office. ATV Crashes Into House

Police say alcohol was a factor in a crash that sent an SUV into a house outside of La Crosse yesterday. The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office says no one was home when the SUV driven by a South Dakota man smashed into the front of the home. Deputies say the driver left the crash, they found him hours later. They believe he was driving drunk. The sheriff’s office says the crash remains under investigation.

Fatal Crash in Douglas Co.

A crash leaves one man dead. It happened on Sunday July 4th at approximately 7PM, as a car was traveling west on CTH B near Hawthorne in Douglas County. Near the intersection of CTH E, the 25 year-old male driver lost control and the vehicle entered the ditch and overturned. During the course of the crash the driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The State Patrol is investigating the crash.

Evers to Tackle Proposed State Budget

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers says he will know about his budget plans once he reads the state’s new 87-billion-dollar spending plan. The governor last week said he had not yet received the budget. Republican lawmakers approved the new budget last week, it includes over three billion-dollars in tax cuts. Governor Evers says he’s not opposed to tax cuts, but isn’t sure about the tax cuts in this budget.

WI Vaccines Continue Downward Trend

The steady decline in coronavirus vaccinations in Wisconsin continues. The state’s Department of Health Services is reporting that doctors and nurses handed-out just under 30 thousand vaccine doses last week. That number will likely go-up as the vaccine count from the long holiday weekend is processed. But the 30 thousand-dose number is the lowest in Wisconsin since the week before Christmas last year. Local Museum Displays Art for Racial Justice

We are starting to see the artwork for racial justice from local kids in several Eau Claire businesses. Kids started working on their projects back in April. This past week, many Eau Claire businesses started hanging the art on their walls. Carrie Ronnander with the Chippewa Valley Museum says it is important to have the art in community spaces, so the community can enjoy it. Organizers say the idea is to start a conversation in the Chippewa Valley.
