UW-Eau Claire’s new welcome center is open and ready to welcome new students. The building has been under construction since last spring. The new welcome center will be the home to UW-Eau Claire’s admissions office, as well as the alumni center and the school’s foundation. Tom and Jeannie Flesch donated the money to complete the center, and their names are on the building.

The split on the Wisconsin Supreme Court is becoming much more public. Conservative justice Rebecca Bradley used a ruling last week to complain that some justices don’t want to answer serious and substantive questions. Her remarks came in a ruling about Racine’s public health order to close schools. Bradley wrote that the court’s unwillingness to answer bigger questions is making the Supreme Court ‘feckless,’ and leaving people in the state without clear guidance about what state law means, and who will enforce

Kohl’s is already thinking about the holiday rush. The company this week offered hourly employees at its stores and distribution centers as much as 400 dollars to continue working through the holiday season. Kohl’s CEO Michelle Gass says the bonuses are a way to say ‘thank you’ to the workers. The bonuses are also a way to keep employees on the job in what is proving to be a very tight labor market in Wisconsin and across the country.

Packer fans have a reason to celebrate as the training camp will be open this year. The team yesterday said it is looking to return to normal when camp kicks off at the end of the month. There will be a 20-foot safety barrier, which means there won’t be any sharing of the bicycles this year. An investigation into a deadly fire continues by the Wisconsin Fire Marshal and authorities in Ashland.  Three people escaped a burning house on Monday morning with one hospitalized for burns.  Three bodies were later discovered in the home.  Additional details have not been released.

Eau Claire will host the 14th annual Kubb National Championships this weekend, July 9-11, at the Eau Claire Soccer Park. This year’s event boasts 122 teams and over 400 players from many different states from around the country including California, Texas, and New Mexico. “Eau Claire has been home to the U.S National Kubb Championship since it started in 2007.
