We’re waiting to see just how many tornadoes came with the overnight storms that cut across southeast Wisconsin. The National Weather Service issued several tornado warnings for the line of storms that swept down from Fond du Lac through Kenosha very early this morning. A Milwaukee County judge has opened the door to possible charges against former Waukesha Police Officer Joseph Mensah. Judge Glenn Yamahiro yesterday ruled there is probable cause to think Mensah committed a crime when he shot and killed Jay Anderson during an officer-involved shooting back in 2016. Mensah was earlier cleared in the shooting. The judge will now appoint a special prosecutor who will make the final decision on charges. The U.S. is maintaining its overall medal lead heading into Thursday’s events in Tokyo.  Team USA is up to 31 total medals including 11 gold.  China remains second with 27 medals, while ROC is third with 23.  Japan has won the most gold so far with 13. Highlighting his tweet with green and yellow hearts Randall Cobb announced he’s returning to Green Bay.  Cobb posted a photo this morning of him in a Packers uniform with the simple message “I’m coming home.”  He played for the Packers from 2011 to 2018 catching 470 passes for 41 touchdowns.  The move to acquire Cobb was reportedly a condition of Aaron Rodgers when he agreed to report on time to training camp. The chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin is stepping down.  In a statement released today, Andrew Hitt says he wants to spend more time with his family and focus on his private sector career.  He is a partner at Milwaukee-based Michael Best Strategies.  Hitt took over as party chair following the 2018 statewide losses.  The party’s Executive Committee meets on September 11th and is expected to elect his replacement at that time.

The Wisconsin  Court of Appeals is denying Steve Avery’s request for an evidentiary hearing or a new trial in connection with the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach.  Avery, who was featured on the Netflix docuseries Making a Murderer,  is serving a life sentence for her killing.  The judges ruled today that Avery wasn’t entitled to any of his motions because there was no error by the lower court when it used its discretion to deny motions to vacate and for reconsideration. 

On Wednesday, July 28, 2021, an independent shooting review panel, made up of law enforcement firearm instructors and law enforcement administrators, met to review the July 14, 2021 incident in Mikana. Evidence shows that the product was not produced with the benefit of inspection or in accordance with the establishment’s Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety plan.
