The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) today announced it has partnered with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) to award $23.2 million for 30 projects through the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program (RFSI). Man Arrested After Attempted Break In

A West Salem man is in custody after trying to break into a house along State Highway 56 between Viroqua and Viola.  According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 5:15 on Saturday morning.  The 9-1-1 callers said they heard cries for help outside and when officers arrived, Role Davis was found and arrested.  He didn’t appear to be hurt.  The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office said they believe drugs may have been a factor in the incident.

Beyond Dry January? Push for Warning Labels on Alcohol

Dry January might extend beyond the month due to health warnings about alcohol use. The U.S. Surgeon General has released an advisory with findings that low alcohol consumption might raise your chances of getting cancer. The advisory is backed by studies that link alcohol consumption to higher chances of developing seven types of cancer. Energy Help Heats up in WI

Wisconsin is launching the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebate Program, also known as the HEAR program.  Thanks to the Biden-Harris Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act, the state was awarded 74-point-five million for the program.  It provides instant discounts to low- and moderate-income households for installing energy-efficient appliances.  The goal is to also lower costs for working families by helping households save on their energy bills.  Governor Tony Evers said the program will give some residents “breathing room” in their monthly household

Tragic Death Leads to Transportation Changes

Transportation changes are in place for Waukesha County’s Hamilton School District following the tragic death of a student last week.  Five-year-old Finn Katona died after he was struck by a bus in the Silver Spring Intermediate School parking lot last Thursday.  He was transferring from one bus to another on the way to Willow Springs Learning Center.  District officials say those transfers are no longer happening as of this morning, with all 4K students being taken directly to their schools.

Butter Burgers Working for Better

Visitors to Culver’s can get a Butter Burger while supporting a good cause today.  Nearly 70 locations across the state are supporting the United Way of Dane County’s Abundant Life Christian School Emergency and Recovery Fund.  Each restaurant is setting a percentage for every sale today that will be contributed to that effort.  The money is being used to support the families and educators who were impacted by the deadly mass shooting at the Madison school back in December.

Driving Complaints Lead to Arrest, 3rd OWI

Roland Teetteh, 46 years of age, from Chicago, IL has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Eau Claire Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 3rd offense.  On January 3rd at 11:02pm a Wisconsin State Trooper responded to a driving complaint on I94 near mile marker 98 westbound for a vehicle varying its speed and weaving across the lanes of travel. Suspect Remains at Large, Homicide Investigation Continues

A man is wanted in Juneau County on three counts of first-degree intentional homicide in the shooting deaths of a 33-year-old woman and two girls, ages 12 and 13. Authorities say 47-year-old Virgil Thew is wanted through Wisconsin Probation and Parole.
