Looking ‘Fore!’ a Thief

There’s a search for whoever stole a dozen golf carts from parks in Milwaukee and Wauwatosa this month. Milwaukee County’s sheriff says they received four carts that were stolen from Milwaukee’s Lincoln Park earlier this month. They are still looking for eight other carts stolen from Wauwatosa’s Hansen Park. The sheriff says the suspect is an older gentleman who was driving a Chevy Tahoe. They are asking anyone who could help with the case to please contact investigators.

Dunn Co. Man Sentenced to Prison

It’s 33 years in prison for a man who admitted to a series of sex crimes. A judge yesterday sentenced Daniel Brooks to more than three decades in prison for sexual assault of a child under 12, child sexual exploitation and one charge of possession of child pornography. He was arrested and charged last year. Brooks is 25, and he will be in his 50s when he is eligible to be released from prison.

Charges Filed in WI Voter Fraud Case

The latest election fraud case in Wisconsin has ties to St. Croix County. Prosecutors filed charges last month against 64-year-old Michael Ray Overall as they say he voted twice. Overall says any double-voting was a mistake. He says he has memory problems. Prosecutors say he voted once in Beloit and voted a second time using an absentee ballot in St. Croix County. A New View for Campus View

Eau Claire is taking a big step toward turning the Campus View Inn & Suites into apartments. The city’s plan commission yesterday signed-off on the proposal. Developers want to remodel the old motel and turn it into 87 new apartments. Planners say the new apartments could help with Eau Claire’s lack of affordable apartments. The full city council is expected to vote on the idea next. Work would start after that and likely wrap-up by next fall.

Health Gap in WI Gets Examined

Wisconsin’s medical schools are teaming-up to take on health disparities in the state. The Medical College of Wisconsin and the UW School of Medicine yesterday announced a three-million-dollar partnership to try and improve health across the state. The idea is to get a snapshot of healthcare and health insurance access in Wisconsin, then compare that to data on places where health outcomes are lacking. WI Sees Coronavirus Case Jump

Wisconsin is seeing more coronavirus positives, but not nearly as many as at the state’s peak back in November. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported Wisconsin’s seven-day average is 156 new positive tests. That’s the highest number since the end of June. But it’s nowhere near Wisconsin’s peak back in November when the state was reporting nearly eight-thousand positives per-day. DHS says it’s confirmed over 100 cases of the Delta variant. WI Businesses React to Coronavirus Response

Wisconsin’s largest business group says the reaction to the coronavirus cost people their jobs in the state.  Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce yesterday released the latest numbers from its Employer Survey. Sixty-four-percent of businesses say the coronavirus lockdowns and restrictions hurt their businesses, and 52-percent of businesses say they had to cut workers’ hours because of the restrictions. New Bowl Game Coming to Madison

Madison will play host to a new college football bowl game.  The inaugural Culver’s Isthmus Bowl will kick off on November 20th and feature two Division 3 midwest teams.  The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin will be represented.  The game will be played at the new Verona Area High School Wildcat Stadium and tickets go on sale October 1st to benefit Special Olympics of Wisconsin.

A.I. Comes to Ashwaubenon

Schneider is planning on opening a new Innovation Center in Ashwaubenon.  The company today says the building called The Grove will be constructed near its company’s headquarters.  It will house technology like artificial intelligence.  The multimillion-dollar Innovation Center will be built on land south of Schneider’s headquarters in Ashwaubenon.
