Trial Date Set For Deadly Drive By

A trial date is set for a boy accused of shooting and killing an eleven-year-old. Jerry Ward is charged with fire-degree intentional homicide and attempted homicide. Police say that Anisa Scott was shot to death when Ward and two other teenagers fired into the car and hit her. The trial will begin June 1st, 2022.

WI Looks to Take in Refugees

The Jewish Social Services in Wisconsin is preparing to take in refugees fleeing from Afghanistan.  The executive director says the agency now has only 24-hours in agreeing to take a client, when they used to have up to a week. JSS will look to hotels to house refugees as apartments are not readily available in August on such short notice.  Fourteen Afghan refugees have been resettled in Madison so far this year.

WI Stimulus Shakes Out

Wisconsin’s stimulus payments have proven to be huge paydays for state and local governments. Governor Tony Evers’ office yesterday said one-point-five-billion of the state’s four-point-five-billion-dollars in stimulus money has gone to government operations. That includes everyone from local governments to the UW System to state government itself. Former Teacher Pleads Guilty

The former Madison East High School teacher who planted hidden cameras in students’ hotel rooms on school trips insists his spying was scientific. David Kruchten pleaded guilty to two charges yesterday. He was arrested after students found hidden cameras in air fresheners and smoke detectors while on a school trip. Camp Randall Announces Mask Requirements

You’re going to have to wear your mask when you walk into Camp Randall Stadium this fall, but you likely won’t need to keep it on at your seat. The University of Wisconsin yesterday released its mask rules for Badger football. Everyone is going to have to wear a mask in the indoor portions of the stadium this year. Finalists Announced for EC County D.A.

Two of the three finalists for D.A. in Eau Claire County currently work in the office. The county released the list of finalists yesterday.  Peter Rindal and Tiffany Winter are both assistant district attorneys, while Edward Minser is an assistant D.A. in Chippewa County. Eau Claire County’s sheriff, the city’s police chief, and several judges are backing Rindal for the job. Whoever is chosen will serve the rest of former D.A. Gary King’s term in office.

School Masks See Push Back
