WI Lawmakers Turn the Page on Literacy

Just about two-thirds of kids in Wisconsin schools cannot read like they are supposed to, and lawmakers in Madison want to change that. The Assembly’s Committee on Education held a hearing yesterday on a plan that would require schools to start screening kids for reading readiness as early as pre-kindergarten. Republican Candidate May Not Run

There may not be another Republican in the race for governor after all. Former Tommy Thompson staffer and lobbyist Bill McCoshen this week sold his lobbying firm, but sources say it’s not so he can run for governor. McCoshen was rumored to be among those running, but his camp is pouring water on those rumors. McCoshen didn’t respond to questions yesterday, but his camp says he’ll make his decision known later this week.

Fond Du Lac Co. Wants YOU!

Fond du Lac County is willing to pay people 15-thousand-dollars to move to town for a job. Sadie Parafiniuk with the county’s economic development office says they are desperate for younger workers to move to the county. People can qualify by taking one of several specific jobs in Fond du Lac County and staying there for at least one year. Clerks Asked to Keep Voting Data

The man in charge of one of Wisconsin’s election investigations is asking county clerks to keep their voting data from last fall. Former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice Michael Gableman sent a letter to county clerks on Monday, asking them to preserve any and all ‘record and evidence’ related to the November election. WI Vaccine Numbers Drop

Wisconsin’s public health managers are reporting a large drop in the number of people getting the coronavirus shot. The state’s Department of Health Services says doctors and nurses last week gave-out just 49- thousand vaccine doses. That comes after weeks of increased doses as the week before saw over 70-thousand people get the shot in one week. Attempt to Flee Ends in Arrest

On Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at approximately 2:23a.m., a Lake Hallie Police Officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway with the driver slumped over to the side near the intersection of 46th Avenue and 133rd Street in the Village of Lake Hallie. Hospitals Feel Pressure of Pandemic

The continued surge and spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant is pushing area hospitals to near capacity.  ThedaCare says its system is nearing capacity caring for inpatient COVID cases.  Health officials are urging communities to help change the course of the virus and get the infections under control.  Over a thousand people are hospitalized in Wisconsin with COVID-19.

State Employees Face COVID-19 Rules

All Wisconsin state employees must have a COVID-19 vaccination or comply with new testing requirements.  The new requirement will apply to anyone who hasn’t submitted proof of vaccination by October 18th.  State data shows 56 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties have very high rates of COVID-19 transmission.  Testing requirements will help officials manage the state workforce while navigating the surge in COVID cases because of the Delta variant.
