Eau Claire is wrapping up its third rainiest August on record. The annual rainfall deficit that’s existed since last August has been erased in just the past week. About three-and-a-half inches of rain has fallen in the past seven days alone. On the south side of Eau Claire, more than seven inches of rain has been measured over that same time period.

Navy Seaman Second Class Arthur Thinnes served on the USS Oklahoma in 1941 when the battleship was attacked by Japanese planes. Torpedoes ripped the ship apart and killed 429 crewman including Thinnes. In 2015, his remains were exhumed for analysis and identified. Thinnes will be buried in Milwaukee on October 15th.
