Troopers Remind Drivers Stay Safe

The Wisconsin State Patrol is reminding drivers heading back home after the holiday weekend that extra troopers are patrolling the roads to enforce the state’s Drive Sober initiative.  Troopers have also been patrolling from the air.  Officials remind drivers that even though construction crews may not be working today the works zones can still be hazardous so it’s important to adhere to the posted speed limits.

Search Continues For Attempted Murder Suspect

Authorities in and around Oconto spent their Sunday looking for a suspect in an armed robbery and an attempted murder. Police say 24-year-old Cody Krueger robbed and tried to kill someone on Friday, he’s now on the loose. Investigators say Krueger should be considered armed and dangerous. They are looking for him in Door and Kewaunee counties, particularly near Algoma. Authorities say if you see him, call 911 immediately.

The latest vaccine push in Wisconsin is at Fort McCoy. The state’s Department of Health Services said it is offering the coronavirus vaccine to the thousands of Afghans who’ve been flown to the fort. WI Deputy Health Secretary Retires

One of the most recognizable faces of Wisconsin’s fight against the coronavirus is stepping down. DHS Deputy Secretary Julie Willems Van Dijk on Friday announced her retirement. Willems Van Dijk has led Wisconsin’s vaccination effort since former DHS Secretary Andrea Palm left to be a part of the Biden Administration. Governor Evers’ office says the woman who ran the state’s overflow facility at the State Fairgrounds last year, Deb Standridge, will take over at DHS.

WI Vaccine Incentive Extended

Folks in Wisconsin have another two weeks to get 100 dollars for getting their coronavirus shot. Governor Evers on Friday extended the deadline. Anyone who gets the vaccine will be eligible for a 100 dollar gift card. Wisconsin’s department of Health Services says 65 thousand people got their shots during the first two weeks of the incentive. You now have until September 19th to get vaccinated and get paid.

Sun Prairie Teacher Shines Bright

A middle school teacher in Sun Prairie is recognized for his teaching excellence.  Chris Gleason is one of 45-teachers from around the country who was named Thursday to receive the California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence.  The awards will be handed out during a National Education Association Foundation event that comes up in February.  The award is a recognition of an educator’s dedication to teaching and to the community along with an effort to pursue personal professional development.

Return to Randall Doesn’t Bring a “W” for WI

Penn State takes one away from the Badgers in Wisconsin’s home opener at Camp Randall.  Over 70-thousand fans were back in the stadium after nearly two years of COVID-19 triggered absence to watch the Nittany Lions defeat Wisconsin 16-10 yesterday.  Badgers quarterback Graham Mertz hit 22 of 37 passes for 185-yards and two interceptions in the loss.  Next Saturday, Wisconsin is still at home to meet Eastern Michigan while Penn State hosts Ball State also on September 11th.
