We are still waiting for an official total on the number of people shot late last night in Racine. Police say several people were wounded in a shooting just after midnight. Neighbors say they heard as many as 30 shots. Racine Police may have more answers about the shooting later today.

It was a violent Labor Day in Madison. Police say one person was shot and killed, another was shot and wounded, and there was a third shooting late last night. No one was hurt in the last shooting. Madison Police say no one is in custody for any of the shootings.

The seven thousand Afghan refugees at Wisconsin’s Fort McCoy need medical care and warm clothes. Commanders say they are dealing with immediate needs as people arrive at the base. Fort McCoy can handle as many as 13 thousand Afghans, though it’s not clear if there will ever be that many at the base at one time. Doctors say there’s another respiratory disease making the rounds in Wisconsin. RSV usually doesn’t start to appear until later in the fall, but doctors say they started to see a spike in cases back in July. RSV is usually just a cough and mild symptoms for most people, but it can be more serious for the very young and the very old. Doctors say the symptoms of RSV are similar to the coronavirus, which sometimes makes it difficult to spot.

Wisconsin’s election managers are looking to take the first step toward drawing a new political map this week. The state’s Elections Commission will meet Thursday to talk about the redistricting process. Wisconsin lawmakers have to draw a new political map based on the 2020 Census, those Census numbers were delivered last month. Wisconsin is expecting a heavily-politicized court fight over the new map. Lawmakers are supposed to have the new map drawn in time for next spring’s elections.

One of southeast Wisconsin’s Republican congressmen is on-board with a plan that would require all schools in the country to show parents just what is being taught. Congressman Scott Fitzgerald on Friday signed-on to the Curriculum Review of Teachings Transparency Act. The acronym is the CRT Transparency Act, and the idea is to make sure parents know if their kids’ school is teaching critical race theory. The hot, dry summer in Wisconsin took its toll on the state’s cranberry crop. Growers say they expect an ‘average’ crop at best this year. Wisconsin is the nation’s largest cranberry grower. An ‘average’ crop this year would mean either just above or just below five million barrels of cranberries.

There are more free life jackets to borrow at Lake Eau Claire. Lake Eau Claire Association President Lori Bechtel says they have two boxes full of life jackets for people who don’t have them. The idea is to make sure everyone can have a safe day on the lake. Bechtel says they hope to add-on next year. She hopes to add two new boxes, and a lot of new life jackets.

A traveling exhibit honoring Wisconsin Vietnam War veterans is on display in Dunn County.   The Wisconsin Remembers: A Face For Every Name spotlights the one-thousand-161 Wisconsin soldiers who served in the Vietnam War.  The display is at the Russell Rassbach Heritage Museum in Menomonie through September 26th.
