A former Metropolis employee was arrested. It was on August 16th that the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brent C. Nicolet, 24, of Eau Claire after an investigation by Detectives. Nicolet was a staff member of the Metropolis Resort at the time of arrest. A charge of Possession of Child Pornography has been referred to the Eau Claire County District Attorney’s Office. Thousands of Afghans fleeing the violence in their country may land at Fort McCoy as their first stop in the United States.  The Afghans have applied for special immigrant visas as tens of thousands worked with U.S troops serving as interpreters and in other roles.  The Afghan refugees are fearful of being targeted for death by the Taliban which is taking control of the country.  Evacuations are underway in the capital of Kabul where several have died trying to find

A Neenah man convicted of killing his grandparents is found incompetent for his sentencing.  Alexander Kraus was in Outagamie County Court today where a judge found him not competent to proceed and ordered additional treatment and evaluation.  A jury found Kraus responsible for the 2019 killings but also ruled that he suffered from a mental disease at the time of the crime.

Wisconsin Powerball Lottery players will soon get a chance to start the week in a winning way with a third weekly drawing being added to the lotto game starting Monday, August 23, 2021. Beginning August 23, 2021, Powerball drawings will be held Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 9:59 p.m. All other elements of Powerball will remain the same, including the prize structure, gameplay, odds, and the price of the ticket. The shooting total for Milwaukee stands at 11 shot and one killed over the weekend. Milwaukee Police say there were two double shootings included in that count. Police say it doesn’t appear that any of the shootings are connected. The deadly shooting happened about 1 a.m. Saturday along West Fond du Lac. Police say a 45-year-old man died in that shooting.

On the world stage, the situation in Afghanistan is growing more tense by the minute.  The Taliban is now in control, seizing the capital city of Kabul yesterday.  The U.S. embassy moved to a military-controlled section of the airport as evacuation flights continue.  More U.S. troops are arriving to help with security.  Thousands of Afghan have crowded the tarmac, trying to force their way onto planes.  At least five people were reportedly killed there today in the chaos.

Kane Berg is finally behind bars. Police in Chippewa Falls arrested him yesterday after an hours-long standoff. Berg is one of the most wanted men in the Chippewa Valley. He was arrested on a warrant for weapons charges. Police say he pointed a gun at a woman yesterday morning. This is not the first standoff in the search for Berg, police thought they had him cornered a few weeks ago, but he escaped.

Milwaukee Police are blaming a drag race for a crash that killed two people. Officers say two cars were racing near 76th and Silver Spring yesterday evening when they ran a red light and one of them smashed into a third car. The two people who died were in the third car. One of the drivers who was racing was arrested, and police are looking for the other driver. The crash is similar to a wreck two weeks ago when
