The school currently offers English language learner and English as a second language classes. The School District says students are welcome to the idea of helping the refugees.

Former School Assistant Facing Charges

Prosecutors in Chippewa County are moving ahead with formal charges against a former Special Education assistant in Bloomer schools. The D.A. yesterday filed sexual assault charges against 22-year-old Noah Lane. He’s accused of touching at least one student. Lane is no longer working in Bloomer schools as the district suspended him when it learned of the complaint.

Refugees Arrive at Fort McCoy

More Afghans are arriving in Wisconsin, but there continues to be no formal count. Commanders at Fort McCoy yesterday said more refugees arrived at the base. About one-thousand troops are at Fort McCoy to help process the refugees. No one in Wisconsin is saying what will happen to the refugees next or when it will happen. WI Hits Vaccine Milestone, Offer$ Ca$h for $hots

It is the latest coronavirus vaccine milestone for Wisconsin. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said doctors and nurses have now given out over six-million doses. The state crossed the threshold yesterday. DHS says nearly 54-percent of people in the state, or just over three-million people, have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine. Electing for No Elections Commission?

One of Wisconsin’s reform groups wants to end the state’s Elections Commission. The Institute for Reforming Government yesterday said the commission is too political and too broken to continue managing the state’s elections. IRG’s Chris Reeder says Wisconsin’s secretary of state should manage elections instead. Reeder said there would still be politics in the electoral system, but he said at least voters could un-elect the secretary of state if those politics became too heavy handed.

Move In Day Unpacks New Rules

Move-in day at UW-Eau Claire will be a little different this year. The school yesterday said new students will have to schedule a two-hour window to move into the dorms. Housing director Quincy Chapman says they want to keep the number of students coming and going through the dorms as small as possible. Students are due to move in on campus this weekend.

Masks Stay on WI Buses

You’re going to have to continue to wear a mask on the bus in Wisconsin. The federal government yesterday extended its mask requirement until mid-January. That means anyone on a city bus and all kids on school buses must continue to wear their masks. The extension also means you will have to continue to wear a mask in the airport and on planes.
