More and more schools are adding their names to the list of districts mandating mask-wearing.  The Kimberly School Board approved a mask requirement last night for students, staff and visitors beginning September 1st.  Appleton schools also voted yesterday to require face masks effective tomorrow.  Last month in Appleton masks were optional but the surge in COVID cases has changed that mandate.

The Eau Claire Fire Department (ECFD) responded to an early morning fire on the city’s West side. This incident occurred as a significant weather event was impacting the city, resulting in multiple power lines down and other wind related damage. ECFD crews quickly made entry into the structure and located fire and smoke in the basement level of the residence. All occupants had evacuated prior to fire crews arriving. Attorney General Josh Kaul announced today that Dane County Judge David Conway sentenced Joachim M McKnight to 3 years, 6 months in prison for the assault of a teenage victim that occurred in March 1994. Thousands of people near the Chippewa Valley Airport are without power. A thunderstorm knocked out most of the power early this morning. There are over 18-hundred people without power currently. People in Eau Claire are also experiencing power outages.

Residents near Fort McCoy are ready to help Afghan refugees.  Local schools in the area are planning to accept students who come from Afghanistan. The school currently offers English language learner and English as a second language classes. The School District says students are welcome to the idea of helping the refugees.
