A former Ladysmith High School teacher is facing multiple felony charges related to child pornography and exploitation.  The Wisconsin Department of Justice has released details on the arrest of McKenzie Johnson.  After an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, a search warrant was executed at Johnson’s home and he was taken into custody Tuesday.  Immediately following the arrest, Johnson resigned from his position at the high school. 

Aaron Beyers of Tomah is facing felony child pornography charges.  The 36-year-old was charged with ten counts of possession of child pornography on Tuesday.  According to the report, back on August 17th, the Tomah Police Department received a tip that Beyers was downloading inappropriate materials.  He is due in court for a bond hearing today.

The Green Waste Facility in Eau Claire is extending hours for the rest of the week to accommodate storm cleanup.  The facility on Jeffers Road is open today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  On Saturday, Green Waste will open at 8 a.m. and close at 3.  Thousands were left without power due to severe storms that took out trees and power lines across the greater Eau Claire area Tuesday morning.        

The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs is being awarded four-point-two-million dollars from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.  The money will go towards capital improvements to the Housing and Recovery Program, according to the WDVA.  This program provides temporary housing, workforce training, and other support services for homeless or otherwise at-risk veterans.  The money will be spread across three state Veterans Housing Centers currently providing services for nearly 80 Wisconsin vets.

More than 90-percent of the ICU beds in Wisconsin are occupied. That’s according to health officials, who warn that the situation could get worse with the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state. There’s also an increase in regular hospital beds across the state. Data from the Wisconsin Department of Health shows that 87-percent of hospital beds in the state are in use.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is reporting an increase in the state’s seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases.  As of Tuesday’s update, there were 2,170 cases reported in the state. As for the daily cases reported Tuesday, that was the highest total in the state in seven months. UW System President Tommy Thompson says he won’t comply with state lawmakers when it comes to enacting COVID-19 restrictions on campuses. Thompson says he will go forth with COVID policies for the school year despite a Republican-led committee voting to block universities from enforcing such restrictions as masking and vaccination mandates. The reward for information leading to an arrest of an accused killer now stands at 20-thousand-dollars.  The Oneida County Sheriff’s Department is looking for 30-year-old Christopher Anderson who allegedly shot and killed Hannah Miller.  Her body was found near Highway 8 and River Bend Road in late June.  Authorities are trying to raise more money to get a reward large enough to motivate someone to turn Anderson in to police.
