Gov. Evers Visits Fort McCoy

Governor Tony Evers is being filled-in on the operation surrounding the housing of Afghan refugees at Fort McCoy.  The governor visited Fort McCoy today to hear about the planning and medical processing by federal military personnel and to get updates on Operation Allies Refuge.  The governor also had a chance to meet some of the Afghanis who arrived this week from their war-torn nation.  The governor says our allies from Afghanistan have a long road ahead of them but Wisconsin will continue

Dane Co. Man Facing More Murder Charges

A Dane County man is facing a second, first-degree murder charge.  Chandler Halderson is accused of killing his father in mid-July after his remains were found in the town of Cottage Grove.  At that time his mother remained missing but her body was recovered in the Town of Roxbury later in the month.  The additional charge for allegedly killing his mother was added against Halderson today in Dane County Court.

State Senator Battling COVID Pneumonia

A State Senator is currently in stable condition as he battles COVID pneumonia.  The office of Andre Jacque says the Senator from De Pere was placed on a ventilator earlier this week after testing positive last week for the coronavirus.  It’s not publicly known whether Senator Jacque has received the COVID vaccine.

Mayo Clinic Health System Named Sports Medicine Provider for UWEC Athletics

Mayo Clinic Health System has been named the new provider of sports medicine services for University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Athletics, beginning with the fall sports season. Clinical staff from Mayo Clinic Health System’s Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine will provide services, including sideline support, radiology, concussion management, procedures and surgical care, physical therapy, and rehabilitation for Blugold athletes on all 25 men’s and women’s athletic teams. “Blugold Athletics will now have the best medical care for our student athletes

Body Identified, Investigation Continues

The body of missing fire chief Jeff Halvorsen has been identified. Police say Halvorsen went missing Wednesday and was last seen in his truck. The truck was found in a wooded area with a body inside which has now been positively identified as Halvorsen. Police say they haven’t ruled the cause of death yet and are waiting on a toxicology report.

Volunteers Stalled By Pandemic

Volunteers from Wisconsin are not able to go to Haiti to assist in relief aid this year. One group called Little By Little goes to Haiti up to five times a year. The trips stopped when the pandemic started and were officially cancelled when the country’s president was assassinated. The group helps provide medical care and supplies when they are there.

Time “FUR” A New Friend?

Animal shelters in Chippewa Valley are seeing more and more pets being surrendered. The Eau Claire County Human Association says people have brought their pets due to moving, having a baby, deployment, or allergies. They say there are willing to provide resources, so people don’t have to surrender their animals. The Chippewa County Human Association put up a post saying their kennel is almost full. The same situation is happening in the Eau Claire area.

After School Programs Look for Help

Parents in Eau Claire are struggling on finding out where their kids will go after school. The Grace Lutheran Communities is no longer offering their after-school program.  The program had to shut down due to a worker shortage. Most programs in the area are at full capacity and can’t take any more children. Grace Lutheran plans to re-evaluate opening their program again after September 10th.

Lightening Strike Turns Deadly in Dunn Co.

We now know the name of the victim in a deadly lightening strike. The deceased victim involved, was identified as Richard Nelson, 60 of rural Colfax.
