Fond Du Lac Drug Bust Nets 300K

A traffic stop yields a big payload of drugs in Fond du Lac.  Authorities say during a traffic stop on Interstate 41 last night a deputy noticed some indications of drug use.  A K-9 Officer alerted to drugs and a search was conducted.  Police arrested two people from Milwaukee after finding more than 300-thousand-dollars worth of drugs including five pounds of methamphetamine, 16 pounds of marijuana, some crack cocaine and a loaded 357 Magnum revolver.

CVTC Turns The Page for Affordable Learning

Chippewa Valley Technical College saved students more than $1 million in textbook costs in the 2020-21 school year, thanks to the school’s recently launched affordable Learning program.  Many instructors and courses have switched to using free textbooks called open educational resources, or OER, instead of traditional, commercially-published textbooks that are often high cost. Grant Awarded to Veteran Hall

A more than two-million-dollar grant has been awarded to a veteran hall.  Klein Hall is a space for veterans who may be homeless and are experiencing mental health issues. The center is located in Chippewa Valley. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs awarded the grant money to either renovate the facility or build a new one. Completion of either project should be open by 2023.

Cirque Italia Comes to Chippewa Valley

Cirque Italia is coming to the Chippewa Valley area. The circus is animal-free and has a water performance on a stage that holds more than 35-thousand gallons of water. Due to COVID-19, seating will be limited and the circus is asking people to bring masks and gloves. The show will take place in the Oakwood Mall parking lot from August 26th to August 29th.

State and Local COVID-19 Cases Climb

 Another 53 cases of COVID-19 are being reported out of Eau Claire as of Wednesday’s update from state health officials.  Additionally, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services noted yesterday that more than half of the population in Eau Claire County is fully vaccinated.  That surpasses the statewide average in terms of full vaccination.  Just over 54-percent of the statewide population has received at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.    CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM CITY HEALTH OFFICIALS.

Different Districts, Different Decisions

There are different decisions from different districts regarding protocols and a return to the classroom. Eau Claire Area School District is now requiring that all students wear face coverings inside school buildings starting September 1st.  Previously, the mask mandate was in place for pre-K through 8th grade, but as of Wednesday night’s board meeting, the district has added high school to the requirement.  The mandate goes for all students, even those who are eligible and have already received the COVID-19

Researchers Test Air Flow on Campus

UW-Eau Claire researchers are conducting tests on classroom ventilation in an effort to control the transmission of COVID-19 on campus this fall.  Two professors and a group of students utilized large industrial fans and dry ice to measure carbon dioxide levels in classrooms inside Schneider Hall Wednesday.  This allowed the team to simulate a classroom full of people exhaling carbon dioxide while breathing and the rate at which the air turns over into heightened levels of CO2.  The group’s hope

WI Gears Up for Bike Trails

Dane County officials are reporting a massive grant that will go toward expanding bike trails across the area.  County Executive Joe Parisi announced Wednesday a combined 770-thousand dollars in grants and other awards for the project.  The grant program provided a matching grant for communities who brought ideas to the table for expanding bike trails, adding bike parks, and improving bike safety.  The hundreds of thousands of dollars will now be split between five different projects across the county that
