Water Rescue Brings Five to Shore Safely

A Saturday on the water turned into a rescue situation for five people in La Crosse. Firefighters had to use their inflatable boats to rescue the group who got stuck while on a canoe trip down the La Crosse River. Firefighters say the canoe got stuck in a tree. No one was injured.

Investigation Continues, Both Suspects in Custody

There’s no word on when the second suspect in Dunn County’s quadruple murder will be back in the state to face charges. Police in Gilbert, Arizona say 38-year-old Antoine Suggs turned himself in on Friday. He’s wanted for the deaths of four people found in an abandoned SUV last weekend. The other suspect, 56-year-old Darren McWright, was arrested in St. Paul, Minnesota last week. Investigators say all six people were together in a Minneapolis bar before the killings. No one

Debate Over Tobacco Age Lights Up

Folks in Wisconsin may soon need to be 21 in order to buy any tobacco products, but some anti-smoking advocates want more. Back to the Masks in Cardinal Country

Kids and teachers in Chippewa Falls schools have to mask-up once again. Superintendent Jeff Holmes sent a letter home to parents on Friday explaining the new mask rules. Everyone who steps into a school in Chippewa Falls, including visitors and people who’ve been vaccinated, must wear a mask. Holmes says nearly 10-percent of kids are at home, either because of a positive coronavirus test or because of quarantine. He says there were 66 students confirmed with the virus last week,

WI Sees Coronavirus Vaccine Numbers Fall

It remains to be seen just how far Wisconsin’s coronavirus vaccine numbers will fall. The state’s Department of Health Services is reporting just 35-thousand vaccine doses were handed-out last week. La Crosse Welcomes Refugees

Leaders in La Crosse County are officially on the record as welcoming Afghan refugees to the area. County Board Chairwoman Monica Kruse helped push through a welcoming resolution last week. She acknowledged that there are some people in La Crosse who are wary about the refugees currently staying at Fort McCoy, but she doesn’t want to encourage fear or discrimination. WI DNR Not Stepping Down

The showdown at Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources will continue. A Dane County judge on Friday dismissed a lawsuit that sought to replace Frederick Prehn on the DNR board. Prehn is a Scott Walker appointee but has not stepped down. He said he will leave when a successor is confirmed by the Wisconsin Senate. That hasn’t happened. Lawmakers do not like Governor Tony Evers’ latest pick, and no one is saying if the governor will submit another candidate anytime soon.

The full moon will look larger than usual Monday night as the Harvest Moon ushers in the arrival of autumn.  Summer will officially come to an end in the Northern Hemisphere when the autumn equinox arrives this Wednesday.  For many, autumn begins with the Harvest Moon, which will be at its brightest at around 8 p.m. Eastern Monday night.  The Harvest Moon could also appear to have a yellow or orange tint when it’s close to the horizon.

Investigation, Charges Continue in Dunn Co. Homicide Case

A second suspect is in custody as part of the Dunn County quadruple homicide investigation.  On Friday, Gilbert, Arizona Police confirmed that Antoine Darnique Suggs turned himself in.  Dunn County Sheriff Kevin Bygd says Darren Lee Osborne was taken into custody earlier this week in Minnesota.  Both suspects are accused of hiding a corpse but so far don’t face other charges.
