Planned Parenthood to Resume Services

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin will resume abortion care services.  They stopped providing abortion services on October 1st after President Donald Trump’s tax and spending bill was signed.  That bill did not include Medicaid funding for abortion providers for one year.  That law is being challenged in federal court by Planned Parenthood Federation of America and 23 state attorneys general, including Wisconsin’s.  Planned Parenthood in Madison, Milwaukee and Sheboygan are taking appointments for abortion care.

Gov. Evers Plans to Appeal Denial of FEMA Funds

Governor Tony Evers says he plans to appeal President Trump’s denial of FEMA funding.  In August, parts of the Milwaukee metropolitan area saw extensive damage after experiencing heavy flooding.  Evers said on Monday that “there isn’t a reason in the world” for rejecting the funding request.  Damage was originally estimated to be about 43-million dollars but that number could increase.

Chippewa Loads New Software, Website

Chippewa County will be implementing new software and launching a new website.  The site is set to go live this Thursday.  A press release says residents will have to register again to receive email notifications involving agendas and minutes for county board meetings.  The county received notice from Granicus earlier this year that it would not be supporting the software the county uses, prompting the transition to the CivicPlus software.

New Safety Measure Launched for New Moms

Ascension Wisconsin is adding a new safety measure for mothers who have recently given birth.  The hospital is giving new mothers an orange alert bracelet to help first responders identify post-birth complications.  The initiative began this month and requires all new mothers to wear the bright orange band for six weeks after delivery at all Ascension Wisconsin hospitals.  Medical professionals identified key post-birth complications, including infection, blood clots and increased bleeding as primary concerns for new moms. DATCP Reminds Farmers to Check Runoff Risk Prior to Spreading Manure

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is reminding farmers and manure applicators to check the runoff risk advisory forecast before spreading manure on fields. This tool helps determine the potential for manure runoff from a field depending on weather conditions and soil temperature. Users can access this tool at https://runoffriskadvisory.wi.gov. The runoff risk advisory forecast includes maps showing short-term runoff risk for manure application. The maps account for soil saturation, temperature, and precipitation on a scale of 1.5 square-mile grids.

Crews On Site of Fire, Investigation into Cause Continues

On Sunday October 26th, at approximately 2014 hrs. the Eau Claire Fire Department responded to 4400 LaSalle lot #83 for a  report of a structure fire. The initial caller reported smoke and flames coming form the structure and believed the home to be  unoccupied. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the front and side of the home, immediately deployed  hose lines, entered the building and extinguished the fire. Memorial Honors Band Crash Victims

A memorial for the victims of the Chippewa Falls band crash twenty years ago this weekend drew surviving family members, friends and the community to honor those who lost their lives in the accident.  There were five people killed in the crash October 16th, 2005:  Band Director Doug Greenhalgh, his wife, Therese and their eleven-year-old granddaughter Morgan, bus driver Paul Rasmus and student teacher Branden Atherton.  Money raised from the memorial supports the Chippewa Falls High School music program. Meetings Invite Public Comment, Community Connections

Eau Claire city leaders have kicked off their series of public meetings with residents around the district to learn about issues and problems facing local neighborhoods.  The meetings also gave city leaders a chance to share with residents the latest updates on city programs and initiatives.  There will be another series of meetings next weekend at Putnam Heights Parka and Boyd Park.

United Airlines Lands in Mosinee

United Airlines is coming back to Mosinee next year.  The company announced that it would be begin offering three flights to Chicago daily from the Central Wisconsin Airport.  A spokesperson for the airline said the move will allow customers greater access to not only Chicago, but all the places they’d like to go.  Tickets are available now for the flights beginning on May 21st, 2026.

First Ever Fishing Competition in Green Bay

The first-ever street fishing competition in the United States was hosted in Green Bay this past weekend.  Teams from nine countries gathered on Saturday and Sunday to fish in the Fox River.  Team Hungary took first place in the pairs and team category.  Romania took second place in both categories as well, with Team USA taking fourth place in pairs.
