ECPD Warns of Scam, Callers Try to Get Personal Info/Money

Man Arrested After Attempted Break In

A West Salem man is in custody after trying to break into a house along State Highway 56 between Viroqua and Viola.  According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 5:15 on Saturday morning.  The 9-1-1 callers said they heard cries for help outside and when officers arrived, Role Davis was found and arrested.  He didn’t appear to be hurt.  The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office said they believe drugs may have been a factor in the incident.

Beyond Dry January? Push for Warning Labels on Alcohol

Dry January might extend beyond the month due to health warnings about alcohol use. The U.S. Surgeon General has released an advisory with findings that low alcohol consumption might raise your chances of getting cancer. The advisory is backed by studies that link alcohol consumption to higher chances of developing seven types of cancer. Energy Help Heats up in WI

Wisconsin is launching the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebate Program, also known as the HEAR program.  Thanks to the Biden-Harris Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act, the state was awarded 74-point-five million for the program.  It provides instant discounts to low- and moderate-income households for installing energy-efficient appliances.  The goal is to also lower costs for working families by helping households save on their energy bills.  Governor Tony Evers said the program will give some residents “breathing room” in their monthly household

Tragic Death Leads to Transportation Changes

Transportation changes are in place for Waukesha County’s Hamilton School District following the tragic death of a student last week.  Five-year-old Finn Katona died after he was struck by a bus in the Silver Spring Intermediate School parking lot last Thursday.  He was transferring from one bus to another on the way to Willow Springs Learning Center.  District officials say those transfers are no longer happening as of this morning, with all 4K students being taken directly to their schools.
