Changes Set for Chippewa

The Chippewa Falls City Council is moving forward on several big projects following a Tuesday night meeting. No Pressure…But, Remember to Check Your Tires

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is reminding car owners to keep an eye on their tire pressure as winter continues. Officials say the air pressure in a tire can go down by one pound per square inch for every ten degrees in falling outdoor temperature.  Underinflated tires can lead to improper wear, reduced traction, and more flats, according to officials.

Rural Families Find Coverage in BadgerCare

A new report shows that about one-third of kids in rural Wisconsin get their healthcare covered through the BadgerCare system.  The statistic is part of a nationwide study from the Center for Children and Families at Georgetown University.  Researchers used census data to analyze rural Medicaid enrollment across the country.  Roughly one-and-a-half-million total Wisconsin residents are on BadgerCare.

UW Leaders Remove DEI Leader

Leaders with the University of Wisconsin in Madison are removing the leader of their Division of Diversity, Equity, and Educational Achievement.  University officials say Doctor LaVar Charleston is no longer in the role and is returning to his appointment as a clinical professor in the School of Education.  The move was based on concerns about financial operations in the division, according to administrators.  Provost Charles Isbell Junior will be serving as interim DDEEA director.

Wrong Way Driver Leads to 5th OWI

On Saturday, January 20th, 2025 at 7:31 pm, the Dunn County Communications Center received a complaint of a wrong way driver, a vehicle travelling westbound in the eastbound lane, on Hwy 29 in the Elk Mound Township. A Dunn County Deputy responded travelling eastbound on Hwy 29 from the I-94 52 interchange. Brooks Moved Out of State

The man serving six life sentences for killing six people during the 2021 Waukesha Christmas parade is now moved out of state. A jury found Darrell Brooks guilty in late 2022 on more than 70 charges related to the parade attack. Brooks drove his SUV through the parade route, killing six victims and injuring more than 60 others. Fox Six News Milwaukee reports Brooks was moved to a prison out of state on Monday. WI Chefs in Running for Best in Midwest

Two Madison chefs are named semifinalists for James Beard Awards for Best Chef In The Midwest. Jamie Brown-Soukaseume and Chuckie Brown-Soukaseume are co-owners of Ahal, an Asian-inspired restaurant on Williamson Street. Jamie was also a candidate for an Emerging Chef James Beard award in 2023.  The winner will be announced in June in Chicago.

Madison is one of the best cities for people working in STEM. A new WalletHub report compared 100 large metro cities based on metrics like job openings for new STEM grads and median wage growth. Madison ranks seventh best, with Austin and Boston at number one and two. Milwaukee is about halfway down the list at 53.
