The Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its fourth annual Bravo  to Business event at The Florian Gardens Conference Center on Wednesday, October 23,  2024. Nearly 270 Chamber investors were in attendance to honor 12 area  businesses nominated in four categories for the significant role they play in driving the  community’s business and economic growth.   To be considered for one of these awards, the organization must set standards for  excellence and innovation in their business practices and community involvement.

YMCA of the Chippewa Valley Unwraps Plan for Family Halloween Fun

The Chippewa Falls YMCA will be hosting Halloween at the Y on Thursday, October 24 from 3:30-6:00 PM. This event takes place outdoors at the YMCA and has fun activities for all ages. The Chippewa Falls YMCA will be offering inflatables, community booths, a haunted house, games, raffles, giveaways and more. This event is free for everyone. Traditional Ojibwe Game Night Planned at WI Campus

The University of Wisconsin-Superior will host A Traditional Ojibwe Game Night on Tuesday, November 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union Great Room. Free and open to the community, individuals will be able to learn about and participate in the Dish (Begesi), Moccasin and Lacrosse (Baaga’adowewin) games. WI Is Working

Most of Wisconsin’s counties that are seeing record-low unemployment are the state’s smallest. The governor’s office yesterday said nine counties are all seeing record-low unemployment, below three percent. Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Door, Langlade, Oconto, Pepin, Rock, and Sawyer counties are all on that list. Langlade has the highest of the low-unemployment-counties with two-point-seven percent, while Door County is the lowest at one-point nine percent. Rock County is the largest of those counties. UW System Gets Legislative Attention

  We could learn a little more about the future of the UW System today. The legislative study committee that’s looking into the university’s future has a meeting set for later this morning at the State Capitol. It’s the committee’s first meeting without any scheduled witnesses. The committee is being asked to come up with some proposals for lawmakers to vote on that would better support the UW System going forward. Those recommendations aren’t due, however, until next year.

Buffalo Co. Road Closure

There is a warning about a road closure in Buffalo County. The sheriff’s office is telling people that Sand Road is closed between County Road B and State Road 88. A bridge on the road failed, and is no longer safe to drive on. No one is saying how long Sand Road will be closed.

Dog Park Temporarily Closed

Some folks in Eau Claire are going to have to find a new place to take their dog for a few days. The city says it’s closing the Otter Creek Dog Park next week for maintenance. That means crews will deal with dying trees, and fix the fence. The park will close Monday, and reopen the next Sunday. Eau Claire says people should use Sundet Dog Park or the Southwest Dog Park instead.

Bucks Win Opener, Does on the Way?

Milwaukee could soon be home to a WNBA team. The group that owns the Bucks has submitted the paperwork to get a WNBA franchise. The Sports Business Journal is reporting that Milwaukee is among several cities looking to grab an expansion WNBA team. That list includes Philadelphia, Austin, Kansas City, Miami, central Florida, Nashville, Charlotte, Denver and maybe even Cleveland. Milwaukee had a professional women’s team decades ago. Plan Pitched to Give Counties Control Over Taxes

There’s a new proposal at the Wisconsin Capitol that would give counties a bit more local control over their taxes. State Rep. Dave Maxey yesterday introduced a plan that would allow counties to raise taxes by degrees. Right now, counties have to choose between no sales tax and a half-a-percent sales tax.
