DOJ Releases Details on Officer Involved Shooting

The Wisconsin Department of Justice is sharing more information about the man who was shot and killed by law enforcement in Chippewa Falls.  On December 21st, 2024, a 49-year-old male fired shots at law enforcement, which led members of the Eau Claire Regional SWAT Team to fire their weapons.  The man was hit and pronounced at the scene.  The Chippewa County Sheriff’s office had originally been called for a domestic abuse incident and the individual ran from the scene.  According

WI Continues to Help on West Coast

Wisconsin volunteers with the American Red Cross are carrying on their aid efforts in southern California.  The new Hughes fire took off in Los Angeles County earlier this week and burned more than ten-thousand acres in just two days.  Audrey Erdmann is one of eight Wisconsin residents who travelled to California to help displaced people back on January tenth.  She now says she is extending her stay.  Another Wisconsin aid worker also just arrived in L.A. on Wednesday.

CURD is the Word

Senator Ron Johnson is again pushing a federal measure that would lay out a legal definition for natural cheese.  The Wisconsin Republican re-introduced the Codifying Useful  Regulatory Definitions, or CURD, Act earlier this week.  The bill puts specific language to the term “natural cheese” to make an official distinction between traditional cheese products and those that are processed foods.  Wisconsin Democrat Senator Tammy Baldwin is supporting the act as well.

Bread Bowls Set to Arrive in EC

Eau Claire is getting a new Panaera Bread at the end of this month.  The new location on Clairemont Avenue marks the second Panera in Eau Claire. According to a press release, they’ll be open everyday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.  The first 100 customers will receive a year’s worth of free “Your Pick Two” meals.  The new location opens on January 29th.

DNR Studies CWD

New numbers show chronic wasting disease is substantially reducing the survival probability of white-tailed deer in Wisconsin. The Department of Natural Resources says it studied deer populations in northern Iowa, Dane and Grant counties starting in 2016. The DNR says CWD is suppressing deer population growth in Wisconsin, and could lead to population declines in areas where more female deer have the disease. Unclaimed Ticket Nears Expiration

An unclaimed Wisconsin Lottery ticket worth 100-thousand dollars will expire on Saturday. The Lottery says the All or Nothing ticket was purchased at a Pick N Save in Oak Creek in July. All or Nothing winners must match either all eleven numbers on their ticket, or none of them. The prize must be claimed in person at the Wisconsin Lottery Office in either Madison or Milwaukee, or can be mailed in if the envelope is postmarked before January 25.

Catherine McQuality, 40 years of age, from Wheeler, WI has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Eau Claire Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 5th offense.  On 1/22/25 at approximately 3:19pm, a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 64 near 890th St. for a speed violation.
