New Name For Post Office?

There’s some agreement between Wisconsin’s two U.S. Senators about a new name for a Post Office in St. Croix County. Senator Tammy Baldwin and Ron Johnson yesterday both said they’d like to see the Post Office in New Richmond renamed for Captain Robert C. Harmon and Private John R. Peirson. The men are half-brothers who both died in World War Two. The new name passed one half of Congress back in 2019 but stalled after that.

Researchers Look for Signs of Invasive Species

There’s DNA, but as of yet, there’s no Asian Carp in the Milwaukee River. State and federal researchers yesterday said they found the DNA of the invasive fish in the river. They say that raises some concerns. There is a multi-billion-dollar effort to keep Asian Carp out of Lake Michigan out of fears that the fish could decimate native fish and ruin parts of the lake. The Reach, Inc. Board of Directors have hired a new CEO. Anne Woolever was named the new CEO for Reach, Inc. and began her duties on September 16, 2021. Anne has been with Reach for 19 years.  Recently she has been serving as VP of Operations and has worked as Director of Adult Programs for a number of years.  She brings many years of advocacy for individuals with disabilities to her new role. Rittenhouse Asks For Self-Defense Expert Testimony At Trial

Kyle Rittenhouse wants an expert self-defense witness to testify at his murder trial next month. Lawyers for the Illinois teen who shot and killed two people during a police protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin last year say Rittenhouse feared for his life. The judge in the case indicated previously he may allow the expert’s testimony but it may be limited.  Meanwhile, today the judge refused to dismiss a weapons charge against Rittenhouse, who was 17 at the time of the shootings.  Rittenhouse’s trial

Oh, Deer…It’s That Time Again

Wisconsin transportation officials want to remind drivers that it’s peak season for highway crashes involving deer and other wildlife that are on the move looking for food and looking for a mate.  According to the State Farm Insurance annual report Wisconsin ranks among the top five states regarding crashes with deer.  There is a one in 54 chance in Wisconsin of having such a crash.  The national average is one in a 116.

New Program Aims to Help Landlords, Renters Connect

A new pilot program aims to bring people with rental barriers and landlords together. The Eau Claire Landlord Support Program (EC-LSP) is a collaborative one-year pilot program developed by the City of Eau Claire, Housing Authority, Housing Division, UCP, The Community Table, and JONAH Affordable Housing Task Force. WI DHS Relaunches Tracing Program

Wisconsin’s public health managers are once again reaching out to people who’ve been close to someone who’s tested positive for the coronavirus. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday re-launched its contact tracing text program. DHS Secretary-designee Karen Timberlake says people who’ve tested positive will get a call from a contact tracer, while people who’ve been in close contact will get a text. It’s now easier for folks to get from Madison to New York City. Dane County’s airport yesterday announced a new, non-stop flight to New York’s LaGuardia Airport. The first flight is next Wednesday. Airport Director Kim Jones says the new flight from Delta will give people across south-central Wisconsin a quicker and easier way to get to New York and the rest of the world.
