Cause of Death Determined in Petitio Case

The cause of death of Gabby Petitio is strangulation.  That’s according to Teton County, Wyoming, Coroner Dr. Brent Blue who said based on the autopsy results, he thinks she died three-to-four weeks before her body was found.  It was discovered in Wyoming in September and police have been looking for her finance Brian Laundrie since last month.  Blue said DNA has been recovered from the body and is being analyzed by police.

FAA & NTSB Investigating Small Plane Crash

The NTSB is investigating the crash of a single-engine GlaStar near Waukesha.  The GlaStar is an amateur-built aircraft.  Authorities confirm the crash at Wisconsin 164 and Redwing Drive in Waukesha.  Two people were on board and headed from Milwaukee to Salina, Kansas.  There has been no word on the condition of the pilot and passenger.

UW Health Weighs Antibodies Vs. Vaccines

UW Health officials say immunity from the COVID-19 vaccine protects better than natural immunity from a prior infection.  UW Health today says COVID-19 infection provides antibodies for the following three months but there’s nothing conclusive about their long-lasting effect.  Researchers say vaccines produce more durable and longer lasting immunity.

Cold Weather Costs Heat Up

It’s going to cost more to stay warm this winter. WE Energies yesterday said customers will likely pay at least 25 dollars more each month. The utility says natural gas prices are double what they were last year, and are currently at a 10-year high. WE Energies says anyone who can’t afford to pay more should contact them and work out a payment plan.

Search Ends in Eau Claire Forest

The search for a missing Eau Claire man has come to a sad end. The sheriff’s office yesterday said searchers found 64-year-old Gregory Steinacker shortly after 6:00pm. He was located deceased in a tree stand within the Eau Claire County Forest. His family said no one had seen him since the last week of September. The sheriff says there’s no sign of foul play. Investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.

Deadly Crash in Green Co.

A truck-car collision leaves three people dead.  The Green County Sheriff’s office says yesterday morning a car missed a stop sign hitting an 18-wheeler in the intersection of State highways 81 and Eleven. The three people in the car died at the scene.  The semi driver was not injured. Investigators say fog and speed contributed to the wreck.

Blueprint for Fun

We’re getting our first look at the new plan for Eau Claire’s Children’s Museum. Organizers unveiled their new design yesterday. The new museum will be at the corner of Barstow and Galloway streets. Museum officials say there will be more for kids to do, plus a large green space for families. The hope is to have the museum up and running by next fall.

UW Stout Hits Goal, WI Vaccinations Dip

UW-Stout has gotten its 70 for 70 celebration. UW President Tommy Thompson stopped by campus yesterday to celebrate their vaccine milestone. The university says Stout hit 70 percent vaccinated about two weeks ago. That means students at Stout are now eligible for some of the half-million dollars in scholarship money for the state’s small campuses. UW-Eau Claire is also eligible. Electing to Speak Out Against Election Investigation

The Republican state lawmaker in charge of Wisconsin’s other election investigation says she’s not happy with the latest from the state’s special election investigator. State Rep. Janel Brandtjen yesterday said former Supreme Court Justice Mike Gableman doesn’t speak for her. Brandtjen is running a parallel investigation out of her committee in the Assembly. Specifically, Brandtjen doesn’t agree with Gableman’s offer of immunity for mayors who may have broken the law, and she wants a full forensic audit of the ballots in Wisconsin.
