The rest of the state is in high fire danger. The Janesville Fire Department has put a burn ban in place due to a combination of fire risk and winds.

State Superintendent Looks to Recruit Educators

Wisconsin’s state superintendent says she’s asking for 60-million dollars to recruit and retain educators in the state. Dr. Jill Underly says her proposal would pay for licensures for new teachers, stipends to help student teachers reduce debt, and a new grant program to expand the education workforce. She also proposed free breakfast and lunch for all Wisconsin students last week. The full Department of Public Instruction budget proposal will be released next month.

Dunn County Supervisors Support Expanded Medicaid, Crisis support

The Dunn County Board of Supervisors has passed two resolutions asking the state to provide additional resources for residents who are not getting the medical care or mental health and crisis services they need.  One resolution calls on the state of Wisconsin to tap into the federal Affordable Care Act to expand Medicaid coverage in the state. The board, at its October meeting, also supported increased state funding for medical assistance and Community Support Programs.  “The board recognized that we have many residents who are not getting the medical care or mental health and crisis services

Arrest Made, Charges Filed in WI Homicide

We know who died over the weekend in Prairie du Chien, but we don’t know why. Police yesterday identified the victim of Friday night’s stabbing. Investigators say 65-year-old Daniel Welsch died from ‘trauma caused by a sharp object.’ A suspect, 39-year-old Jessie Slaughter, is in custody in the case. Budget Plans Push Forward

Eau Claire Schools are moving ahead with two budget plans, at least until Election Day. The city’s school board last night approved one budget that includes their proposed 18 million-dollar a-year tax increase, and one that doesn’t. The new app allows people to report a crime, as well as get alerts about traffic jams, crime alerts, and the latest news from the city’s police department. WI Congressman Pushes Pure Poultry For Answers

Western Wisconsin’s congressman is the latest to ask for answers about Pure Prairie Poultry’s closing. Republican Congressman Derrick Van Orden yesterday sent a letter to the USDA, asking for more information. Van Orden joined congressmen from Minnesota and Iowa in asking about oversight, regulation, and a lack of transparency from the USDA.
