Sex Offender to Be Released in Black River Falls

Officials are notifying the public of a sex offender moving into Black River Falls. The state’s Department of Corrections yesterday said 41-year-old Leaf Boulding is being released from prison today and will be living in the city. Boulding will be living at a home on Roosevelt Road. He served time for second degree sexual assault of a child. He will be monitored by the DOC.

A.G. Kaul Unveils Legislative Wish List

The wish list from Wisconsin’s attorney general includes more than 100 million-dollars for grants, and some new control laws.  A-G Josh Kaul unveiled his legislative package yesterday.  He’s asking the Republican-controlled legislature for a series of gun control plans that have failed to win support in the past.  Kaul says more background checks and a red flag law will keep guns out of the hands of people who should not have them.  He’s also asking for 115 million-dollars in grant money.

EC School Board Considers Coronavirus Leave

Teachers and staffers at Eau Claire Schools likely won’t have to use vacation time to quarantine because of the coronavirus. The city’s school board signaled it will approve ten days of coronavirus leave for district employees. The final vote will likely come in two weeks. The leave is only for vaccinated teachers and staffers, but would give them time off if their kids had to quarantine as well.

Food For Fines Returns to Menomonie

A bag of groceries could save you a bundle if you owe the police in Menomonie. The city’s police department yesterday said it is offering its Food for Fines program until the end of the year. People can get two dollars off per-food item donation. The program has been around since 2016, and has brought-in over five thousand pounds of food so far.

WI Vaccines Drop Off

The number of people who got their coronavirus shot in Wisconsin last week looks to have fallen off the table. The state’s Department of Health Services says just over 17 thousand people got a dose of the vaccine. That’s down from 27 thousand the week before, and 32 thousand the week before that. Dumpin’ the Pumpkins?

Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources is pushing to compost your pumpkins this fall. The DNR took to Twitter yesterday to say pumpkins are great compost material. The department says about 20 percent of what goes to a landfill is food scraps and old vegetables like pumpkins. DNR says by composting, you can get rid of your jack-o-lantern and help save some landfill space.

Green Bay Lawmaker Wants To End Lambeau Field Taxing District

One of Green Bay’s state lawmakers wants to end the special taxing district that pays for Lambeau Field.  State Rep David Steffen yesterday introduced a plan that would shift maintenance of the stadium to the city of Green Bay.  With that responsibility, Green Bay would also get the millions of dollars in taxes that the Lambeau Field Stadium District currently collects.  Steffen says that’d mean at least 18 million-dollars for Green Bay.  Homeowners in and around Brown County could see

BBB Warns of Holiday Scams

The Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin is warning residents that the holiday season coupled with supply chain issues make perfect conditions for scammers to exploit.  Officials warn shoppers not to shop on sites they’re not familiar with and if the item you want is out of stock go to BBB-dot-org to do research before shopping on an unfamiliar site.  It’s also important to watch your payment methods and to use a credit card or PayPal so you can dispute any fraudulent transaction.

Dane County Extends Mask Mandate

The Dane County mask mandate is being extended through Thanksgiving.  A new emergency order issued today pushes the date to end the requirement to November 27th.  At this time county health officials don’t expect to renew the emergency order.  Everyone two-years-old and older must wear masks in an enclosed public space.

Deadly Crash in Barron Co.

On Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 3:36 p.m., the Barron County 911 Center received a call of a two vehicle crash on Hwy 48 near the Barron/Polk County line, west of Cumberland. Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Cumberland Police Department, Cumberland Fire Department, Cumberland Ambulance, Barron County First Responders and the Life Link Helicopter all responded to the scene.
