Equipment Violation Leads to OWI

Kassie Lee Conley, 34 years of age, from South Range, WI has been arrested by the WisconsinState Patrol Spooner Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 1st offense, with onechild in the vehicle under the age of 16. On November 1st, 2024, at approximately 6:57 pm, a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper initiated atraffic stop for an equipment violation on Highway C at Highway A, near Superior Village.The Trooper observed that the driver, Kassie Conley, showed signs of impairment.

Traffic Stop Leads to 6th OWI for EC Man

Firm Hired to Start Planning New Amtrak Route

An engineering firm has been chosen to start planning the new Eau Claire to Twin Cities Amtrak train route.  The proposed new route would connect to an expanded Hiawatha line from Chicago to the Twin Cities, connecting to Eau Claire, Menomonie, and Hudson on the way.  Other lines on the new Hiawatha route would include Madison and Green Bay.  The Chippewa St. Croix Rail Commission has chosen HDR Engineering to create the scope, schedule, and budget for the new passenger

Trapping and Hunting Seasons Kick Off

Five trapping and hunting seasons start tomorrow in Wisconsin. The Department of Natural Resources says people with the correct licenses can start trapping beaver, mink, muskrat and otter, and hunting raccoon.  The DNR asks hunters to check which zones will allow trapping starting tomorrow — some zones won’t allow mink or muskrat trapping until the eleventh.  Crow and deer gun seasons won’t start until late November. DNR Seeks Black Bear Information

If anyone in Wisconsin sees a rare black bear den, the Department of Natural Resources wants to hear about it. The department says it’s studying black bear diets and litters, and public reporting is essential to the research project. Useful information would include GPS coordinates, any information about the bears nearby, and photos of the den from a safe distance. Cause of Home Fire Under Investigation

A La Crosse homeowner is recovering after suffering smoke inhalation from a house fire in La Crosse yesterday.  Firefighters were called to the home on 16th Street South about 4:30 yesterday afternoon.  Upon arrival, they found the fire had spread to the outside of the house.  Fire officials say they managed to bring the blaze under control within minutes.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
