It is Election Day in Wisconsin. Voters across the state head to the polls today to decide local races. That means contests for mayor, school board, and judge. Many voters will also see school referendum questions on their ballots. Polls are open from 7 a.m. til 8 p.m., and election managers are reminding people to bring their ID if they want to vote. Wisconsin’s ban on disconnecting the power ends on April 15th. That’s next Friday. The state’s Public Service Commission yesterday said people need to make payment arrangements or ask for financial assistance before the deadline. Read MoreThe sheriff in Vernon County says someone is stealing traffic signs, and says it’s not funny. Sheriff John Spears yesterday said thieves have taken signs in Viroqua, Westby, Coon Valley, Chaseburg, Stoddard, Genoa, Readstown and Viola. The sheriff’s department says the signs are there for a reason, and a missing stop sign or yield sign could end-up causing a crash. He’s asking people throughout the county to keep an eye on their signs, and report any that go missing.
Read MoreWisconsin’s bird flu outbreak is growing. The state’s Department of Agriculture yesterday said the flu has been found in a flock of backyard chickens in Rock County. Investigators say they killed all 22 chickens in the backyard flock to try and contain the outbreak. It’s the second domestic flock to have tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza. The Department of Ag killed over two-point-seven million chickens at a commercial farm in Jefferson County after discovering the bird flu there.

The state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection yesterday said people should throw out bags of Ocean Mist Farms brand romaine hearts sold in the state. The fear is that the salad is tainted with Cyclospora. Most of the bags of lettuce were sold in western Wisconsin. DATCP says all of the suspect packages have the code ’22RHDM2L,’ with a harvest date of ‘MAR10.’ The lettuce was grown in Coachella, California.
