Changes on Tap for Local Favorite: Leinenkugel Brewery Set to Close

A long time local mainstay is leaving the landscape in Chippewa Falls. No one is saying how many workers at the Leinenkugel brewery in Chippewa Falls will lose their jobs when the brewery closes, but lives will be affected after a business move was announced. Molson Coors, which owns the Leinie’s brand, yesterday said it is closing the historic brewery in Chippewa Falls, and moving beer production to Milwaukee. The company says they are looking to ‘centralize’ brewing in Milwaukee.

Sex Offender Facing New Charges

Prosecutors in Rusk County are moving ahead with charges against a registered sex offender who they say lied about where he was living. Michael Crouse has been on Wisconsin’s sex offender registry since his 2004 conviction for child sexual assault. He’s supposed to let the state know where he lives, but investigators say he lied about living in Bloomer. They also say Crouse was babysitting children. Before moving to Bloomer, prosecutors say Crouse was homeless in Ladysmith.

WI Close to Record Voter Turnout

Wisconsin got close to record turnout for this week’s election. The state’s Elections Commission yesterday said 72-point-six percent of people who are eligible to vote, did vote on Tuesday. That’s just below the record turnout of 73-point-two percent in 2004. In all, the Elections Commission said, three-point-four million people voted in this year’s election. WI Dairy Issues Voluntary Recall

A Wisconsin dairy is voluntarily recalling several ice cream products. Madison’s Babcock Dairy says more than 40 cases of ice cream labeled as Chocolate Peanut Butter actually have their Orange Custard Chocolate Chip flavor inside. The dairy says people who are allergic to eggs or Yellow number-five dye could have serious reactions. Van Orden Returns to Congress

Western Wisconsin Congressman Derrick Van Orden will serve a second term. NBC News reports Van Orden, a Republican, defeated Democratic challenger Rebecca Cooke with 51-percent of the vote. Van Orden will represent the Third Congressional District in Washington D.C. The district includes Eau Claire, Dunn, Trempeleau, and La Crosse Counties. Redrawn maps expanded the district into parts of central Wisconsin.

Baldwin Returns to Senate

Incumbent Democratic U-S Senator Tammy Baldwin wins re-election. NBC News reports Baldwin lead against Republican challenger Eric Hovde by just more than 27-thousand votes. This will be Baldwin’s third Senate term in Wisconsin. She was first elected to the U-S Senate in 2012.

Suspects Arrested in Child Abuse Case

Two suspects in Eau Claire are under arrest and accused of chronically neglecting four children. The Eau Claire Area School District reported the pair after the children, ages twelve, ten, seven, and five, started showing signs of malnourishment. District employees reported the children were always hungry, and said they never felt full at home. EC Schools See “Yes” Votes from Voters

Voters in Eau Claire have said Yes to the city’s school district’s tax increase. As of early this morning, Eau Claire Area Schools said the referendum for day-to-day operations got about 64 percent of the vote. The tax hike will bring-in 18 million-dollars a year over the next four years. Eau Claire Schools say that 72 million-dollars is earmarked for pay raises, more mental health services, and benefits for teachers and administrators.

We are on the other side of Election Day 2024 and Donald Trump is now the President-Elect. On early Wednesday, the Republican candidate secured more than enough electoral votes to win Tuesday’s general election. Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris to become only the second President in U.S. history to be elected to non-consecutive terms. In a victory speech, Trump said America is about to enter a golden age, and vowed to deliver a prosperous America.
