Arrest Made in Dunn Co. Cold Case

A local cold case heats back up with the following information released from Dunn County authorites: On February 15, 1974, Mary K. Schlais was found deceased near the intersection of 408th Ave. and 990th St. in the Township of Spring Brook, Dunn County. Mary’s death at that time was ruled a homicide.  The initial investigation revealed that Mary was from Minneapolis, MN and was believed to be hitch hiking from Minneapolis, MN to an art show in Chicago, IL. Brewery Workers Face Job Loss With Closure

We now know how many people will lose their jobs when the Leinenkugel’s brewery in Chippewa Falls closes in January. The Teamsters yesterday said workers in two local union chapters will be impacted. Molson Coors, which owns Leinies, announced this week that it is closing the historic brewery in Chippewa Falls and moving all brewing operations to Milwaukee. We Energies Approve Rate Hike

Your We Energies bill is going up about 20 dollars a-month over the next two years. The Wisconsin Public Service Commission yesterday approved an eight or nine dollar per-month increase for We Energies next year, and a nine or 10 dollar per-month increase for the year-after that. NBC News is projecting Tammy Baldwin as the winner of the Senate race in Wisconsin. Baldwin addressed supporters in Madison Thursday. WI Set to Get Millions in Settlement

Wisconsin will get almost 22-million dollars in a settlement with Kroger for the grocery store’s role in the opioid crisis.  A coalition of thirty attorneys general, including Wisconsin A-G Josh Kaul, announced a one-point-four-billion dollar settlement yesterday.  Along with other settlements with distributors, manufacturers, and pharmacies related to the opioid crisis, Wisconsin is set to get more than 780-million dollars total.  Kroger has more than a hundred stores across Wisconsin.  The chain has also agreed to monitor and report suspicious

WI Ranks High for Veterans

Madison is in the top ten best cities for veterans in the U-S.  A new report by WalletHub compared a hundred cities based on metrics like the average amount of veteran income growth and number of VA facilities.  Madison was ranked eighth overall, and had the third highest rate of military-skill related jobs.  Austin, Texas topped the list, while Newark, New Jersey, and Detroit, Michigan, were at the bottom.
