Tomah Business Fire Under Investigation

Police in Tomah say they are looking for the cause of a fire that destroyed five semi trucks over the weekend.  It happened at Holland Trucking on Saturday morning.  Firefighters say all five trucks were fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.  No one was hurt.  It took fire crews nearly two-hours to put the fire out.

Man Charged in Deadly Bar Fire; Bond Set at $250K

The man suspected of starting the deadly fire at a Door County bar says he was just trying to smoke a cigarette.  Fifty seven-year-old Anthony Gonzalez made his first appearance in court on Friday. Police arrested him the day before.  Investigators say Gonzalez told them he spilled lighter fluid on his bed while trying to light a cigarette.  That fire spread and gutted the historic Butch’s Bar.  Two people who lived in the apartments above the bar died in the

Convicted Killer Denied Release

The man convicted to raping and killing an nine-year-old girl back in 1973 will not be getting out of prison.  A judge last week denied 73-year-old Gerald Turner’s latest request to leave the Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center.  Turner was sentenced to 38-years behind bars for the Halloween night rape and murder of Lisa Ann French in Fond du Lac.  Prosecutors say Turner is a sexually violent person and needs to be kept locked away.

Search Continues For Missing UW La Crosse Student

It was a weekend of searching for a missing UW-La Crosse student.  Nearly 200 people turned-out for a search on Saturday for 25-year-old Hamud Faal.  He’s been missing since last Monday.  Searchers looked at Riverside Park and other places around town.  No one is sure just where he may have gone, or if he is with someone. Election Probe Report Update Expected

We’re expecting another peak at the investigation into the 2020 presidential election.  The Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections will hold a hearing tomorrow morning to get an update from former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Mike Gableman about his investigation.  Gableman had hoped to wrap-up his investigation by now, but has said the mayors of Green Bay and Madison, along with several state election managers haven’t been cooperating.  Republicans last week approved a sweeping set of election changes inspired by Gableman’s investigation.

Coronavirus Hospitalizations Continue to Trend Down

We’re waiting for the latest snapshot of the coronavirus in Wisconsin.  The state’s Hospital Association on Friday said just 561 people are hospitalized with the virus, including just 109 people in the ICU.  Those are both the lowest numbers since last August.  Today’s update is due out later this afternoon.

Gov. Evers “Bails” on Bail Issue

Wisconsin’s governor isn’t saying if he is for or against the idea of tougher bails for some criminals in the state.  Governor Tony Evers avoided giving an answer on Capital City Sunday over the weekend.  The state legislature last week approved a constitutional amendment that would have judges look at the severity of a crime when determining bail.  The move comes after the suspect in the Waukesha Christmas Parade attack was released on a low bail just days before police

We’re going to get our first snapshot of the 2022 election season this week.  A new Marquette Law School Poll is due on Wednesday.  The poll will offer the first look of the year at the popularity of Governor Tony Evers, U.S. Senators Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin, former President Donald Trump, and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos.  Pollsters also say they asked about voter confidence in the 2020 presidential election in Wisconsin, and asked what people think of the coronavirus.  The

President Trump Leads Early Poll

Former President Trump remains a favorite among the GOP.  The Conservative Political Action Conference wrapped up yesterday in Florida and then a straw poll was held.  Out of more than 25-hundred attendees, 59-percent voted Trump as the top presidential choice in 2024.  Trump spoke Saturday night, blaming President Biden for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and insisted a GOP comeback was on the way.

Oshkosh Looks to Drive Ahead for Post Office Trucks

The UAW continues to push to build the Post Office’s new mail trucks in Oshkosh.  The union held a rally outside of the Oshkosh Defense plant on Saturday.  Oshkosh has said it will build the new mail trucks at its plant in South Carolina.  The UAW wants them built in Wisconsin, and by union members.
