Wisconsin’s Supreme Court is taking-up another challenge to the power of Dane County’s public health managers. The high court yesterday agreed to hear a case that questions whether Dane County’s public health director can issue a mask mandate on her own. Farmers Set for Round of Relief

Farmers across Wisconsin are getting another round of coronavirus relief. Governor Tony Evers yesterday said more than 20-thousand farmers in the state will share 50 million-dollars in federal money. This is the third round of direct aid to farmers in Wisconsin, the first two sent 50-million to about 15-thousand farmers in the state.

It’s the first day back in in-person classes for kids at Spooner Middle School in a month. The district yesterday got the all-clear to reopen the building. EC Schools Look to Fill Positions

A peek into the classroom shows a shortage of substitute teachers here locally. Superintendent Michael Johnson yesterday taught a first grade class at Sherman Elementary School. Johnson says the district has struggled for months to find enough subs, but says things are worse this week. Turtle Lake Plans to Open New Sportsbook

Wisconsin is on its way to a second sportsbook, this time at the casino in Turtle Lake. Governor Tony Evers yesterday signed an agreement with the St. Croix Chippewa Indians to allow the tribe to open a new sports betting facility. The next step is a 45-day federal review. WI Coronavirus Cases Tip Up, Officials Urge Holiday Caution

Wisconsin is starting the week with a small drop in its coronavirus hospitalization numbers. The state’s Hospital Association yesterday reported just over 16-hundred people are hospitalized with the virus, that’s down 50 from the start of law week. The Hospital Association says over 400 people remain in ICUs across the state. The Hospital Association does not track how many people are hospitalized with the virus, as opposed to those hospitalized because of it. But the larger message is calling for caution.

Navy Sends Help to WI Hospitals

The Navy is sending a medical team to Green Bay to help at Bellin  Hospital. FEMA approved the team of 20 people last week. In addition to doctors and nurses, the Navy is sending respiratory therapists to the hospital. Big Bump in Bucks for Next Bucky Chancellor

The next chancellor at UW-Madison will likely make a lot more money than the current one. UW Regents are considering pay raises, between five and 32-percent, for top leaders. Regents say they need to pay that much more in order to get top candidates. The plan would increase the salary for UW President by nearly seven percent, increase the salary for UW-Madison chancellor by nearly 22-percent, and increase the salary for UW-Milwaukee chancellor by 32 percent. La Crosse Police Investigate Drive By Shooting

An investigation’s underway after a drive-by shooting near La Crosse.  Police say they were called to a house in Holman Saturday afternoon where someone had driven by and fired gunshots.  One person inside the home was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  No arrests have been made and anyone with information is asked to call police.

Home Break-In, Standoff Leads to Arrest

A person’s arrested after a home break-in in central Wisconsin.  Police say a man broke into a person’s house in Plover Sunday afternoon and held them against their will.  Police say the suspect and the victim knew each other.  The victim was able to get away and call police.  Police say a SWAT team surrounded the house and the suspect was eventually arrested.  He’s facing several charges including kidnapping, battery, and false imprisonment.
