Baraboo Man Facing Charges in Connection to Hotel Stabbing

A man is facing several charges in connection with a stabbing at a southern Wisconsin hotel.  Darren Rolle of Baraboo is accused of stabbing a woman at the Malibu Inn in Lake Delta earlier this month.  Rolle recently appeared in court and was charged with multiple felonies included aggravated battery.  He posted five-thousand-dollars bond and will appear in court again next month.

Brrrrrr! Temps Down, Layers Up

Some of the coldest temperatures of the season are headed for Wisconsin this weekend.  Forecasters say west-central Wisconsin near Eau Claire will see some of the coldest temperatures, with highs on New Year’s Day in the mid-single digits and lows close to 15-degrees below zero.  Snow is also likely to impact southern Wisconsin Saturday but it’s unclear how much.

Permanent Memorial Planned

The city of Waukesha, Wisconsin, will have to wait for a permanent memorial to the victims of the Christmas Parade tragedy.  Crews will take down the makeshift memorial today.  The collection of signs, candles, teddy bears, and other memories started the same day that police say a driver barreled through the parade, killing six and injuring nearly 60 more.  Waukesha is hosting a ceremony for the victims today.  Crews will then move the memorial to the county’s historical society for storage.

Man Arrested After Shooting Crossbow at Officer

A man’s arrested in what police are calling a domestic disturbance in Wisconsin Dells.  Police say a SWAT team was called to the area of Vine Street and Broadway Avenue early this morning where they say a man shot a crossbow at an officer.  The officer wasn’t hurt and the man was arrested.  It’s unclear what led up to police being called

Wisconsin returns to the basketball court tonight after a two-week layoff.  The Badgers take on Illinois State at home at 7:00 p.m.  The Badgers haven’t played since December 15th when they beat Nicholls State.  They’ve had multiple games canceled since then because of coronavirus.

EC Officer Cleared

Prosecutors have cleared an Eau Claire police officer for a deadly officer-involved shooting from November. The state’s Department of Justice yesterday said the officer was justified in shooting and killing LeKenneth Miller in early November. Investigators say Miller broke into his ex’s home, stabbed a woman, and was charging at police with a knife when the officer shot and killed him. MKE Marks Deadliest Year

Whatever the final tally is, Milwaukee County’s medical examiner says 2021 will be a record-year for deaths. The Medical Examiner’s Office yesterday said there have been 220 homicides in Milwaukee County so far. Most of those, 192, have come in the city of Milwaukee. Locations Renamed in WI

More than two dozen sites in Wisconsin with Indian names are about to get new names. The Department of the Interior is in the process of renaming hundreds of sites across the country with Indian references or slurs in their names. There are 28 places in Wisconsin on that list, all of them with the word squaw in their name. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland says racism shouldn’t be on the map in this country.

The Chippewa Valley’s food co-op merger is on track to happen in the new year. The Menomonie Market Food and Just Local Food stores are set to join sometime after January 1st.
