WI Congressman Calls on DOJ To Investigate Alleged Fraudulent Electors

A Wisconsin Congressman wants the Justice Department to look into claims ten people fraudulently claimed to be 2020 presidential electors.  Madison Democrat Mark Pocan sent a letter to AG Merrick Garland today accusing the ten, which include former Wisconsin GOP head Andrew Hitt, of lying to cast electoral ballots for Donald Trump.   Former WisGOP National Committeewoman Mary Buestrin is also named in the letter.  Pocan says it’s important for the investigation to happen to keep democracy safe.

Kind Announces Federal Funding for Arcadia Projects

Today, Rep. Ron Kind announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers received $5.3 million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding to continue work on the flood risk management project in Arcadia. WI Tackles Teen Jobs

Governor Tony Evers will decide if younger teens can work more in the state of Wisconsin.  The Wisconsin Assembly approved a plan yesterday that will allow 14-and-15-year-olds in the state to work until 11 p.m. on any night that they don’t have school the next day.  Currently, the law sets hours based on a summer and rest-of-the-year schedule.  Younger teens can work until 9 p.m. in the summer, and until 7 p.m. during the school year.  Some Republicans and Wisconsin’s restaurants like the changes,

Dane Co. Joins Efforts to Sue Makers of PFAS Chemicals

Add Dane County to the list of people and places suing the makers of PFAS chemicals.  County Executive Joe Parisi yesterday announced plans to file a lawsuit to try and cover the cost of the environmental clean-up of the foam.  PFAS chemicals are used in all manner of things, but are widely used in firefighting foam.  Parisi says the foam polluted the soil and water near the Dane County Regional Airport.  Parisi says he wants to hold the “big corporations”

American Girl Shifts WI Operations

There are some changes coming for the American Girl operation in Middleton.  The company yesterday said it is going to move its corporate headquarters out of Middleton and into another space in Dane County.  The company is also closing its warehouses in Middleton.  Those jobs will mostly go to warehouses in DeForest.  American Girl says it’s making the moves to consolidate and update with changes in its remote-work operations.  The moves should happen by the fall.

Crews Battle Fire in Frigid Temps

Crews battled a fire in frigid temperatures this morning. The City of Eau Claire Fire Department responded to a structure fire overnight on Hobart St. The first arriving crew found fire showing on the 1st floor, extending quickly up the structure from two windows. They attacked the fire while other arriving crews quickly conducted searches for victims and fire extension; all occupants had exited the structure just prior to arrival. Gavel Drops, Halderson Guilty

It’s a guilty verdict for Chandler Halderson.  The jury in his case needed about two hours to convict him of killing, then butchering his parents last summer.  Investigators say he killed them because his web of lies about work and school was coming undone.  Halderson’s defense team didn’t call a single witness in the case.  Halderson is facing a life sentence for the crimes.

Former Defense Contractor Sentenced to Prison

It’s 10 years in prison for a former defense contractor from Chippewa Falls.  A judge in Madison yesterday sentenced Craig Klund for wire fraud.  Klund pleaded guilty to lying to the Department of Defense in order to cash-in on several contracts for electronic components.  Prosecutors say he made nearly three million-dollars from his scheme.  Klund was living in South Dakota, but was originally from Chippewa Falls.

TN Lawmaker Proposes “Kyle’s Law”; Rittenhouse Files For Return of Property

A Tennessee state representative is proposing a bill protecting individuals acquitted of murder.  It’s called “Kyle’s Law” and it would reimburse those charged with murder legal fees and lost wages if courts find they acted in self-defense and are acquitted of charges.  The proposed legislation is named after Kyle Rittenhouse, the Wisconsin teenager acquitted of murdering two Kenosha protestors.  Not everyone is on board though, Representative John Ray Clemmons has called the bill “offensive” and a political ploy.
