On April 12, 2022, the Rockford Police Department located a body in the Rock River in Rockford, Illinois. On April 14, 2022, the Altoona Police Department was contacted by the Rockford Police Department after the body was identified as Dennis R. Schattie, a 79 year old male of Altoona, WI. The death was deemed suspicious by Winnebago, Illinois County Coroner, because of injuries sustained to the body. CVTC To Host Plant Sale

Mother’s Day is right around the corner. Students at Chippewa Valley Technical College have you covered. They’ve cultivated annual flowers, herbs, succulents and vegetables for the annual Plant Sale Monday, May 2, and Tuesday, May 3. Pancake Breakfast to Benefit Local Responders

An upcoming stack of pancakes will help our local responders. On April 24th, 2022 from 7:00am-noon the Association will be hosting a pancake breakfast at the Altoona Fire Department (1904 Spooner Avenue, Altoona, WI). Pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, and other items will be served. Admission is by free will donation. UW Madison Robberies Prompt Patrols

University of Wisconsin-Madison police are stepping up patrols this week after two armed robberies near campus.  Police say both robberies happened last Friday.  One was at the McDonald’s on Regent Street and the other was at the East Campus Mall Walgreen’s.  Police say no one was hurt in either robbery and no arrests have been made.

Violence In Milwaukee Continues

 Milwaukee’s violent 2022 is not showing any sign of slowing down. Police say two people were killed yesterday, including a 17-year-old girl in what they’re calling a road rage shooting. Two other people were shot on Saturday. Milwaukee’s homicide total is now over 60 for the year, that’s nearly 25 more than at this point last year.

Troops Return Home

It was a warm welcome home for 150 members of the Wisconsin National Guard over the weekend. Members of the 107th Maintenance Company arrived back at Camp Douglas Saturday afternoon. The troops spent the past 11 months in eastern Europe. Governor Evers was on-hand to welcome them back.

New Candidate Announces Campaign

There is a new Democrat running for State Senate in northwestern Wisconsin. Kelly Westlund announced her campaign on Friday. She will be running to replace Senator Janet Bewley, who is not running again this fall. Westlund ran for Congress in the northwestern corner of the state back in 2014, she has worked for U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin ever since.

Certificate Adds New Opportunity to UWEC

Add a new certificate to UW-Eau Claire’s growing list of medical opportunities. The university on Friday announced a new health humanities certificate. The idea is to give students a chance to connect humanities with health care. The new 15-hour certificate will launch next fall. A 150 thousand-dollar grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities is paying for the new initiative.

WI Coronavirus Cases Hold Steady

Wisconsin’s coronavirus hospitalizations are holding steady. The state’s Hospital Association on Friday said 140 people are in the hospital with the virus across the state.
