WAXX Cares Wednesday: Sofas For Service

The WAXX Cares project for the month of April is “Sofas For Service.”   It’s a way to make sure we don’t just “sit by” while our Veterans and hero’s lack basic household items. Sculpture Thief Ordered to Pay

One of the suspects in the theft of the Hatched Baby in La Crosse will pay a fine to avoid jail time. A judge yesterday ordered Matthew Reich to pay just over 66-hundred dollars in restitution as part of a diversion agreement. Reich pleaded no contest to charges that he received stolen property. Clergy Abuse Investigation Hits One Year Mark

There is no word who has been reported as part of Wisconsin’s investigation into clergy sex abuse, nor is there any word on when the cases occurred.  Attorney General Josh Kaul yesterday updated his investigation on its one year anniversary. Kaul said his tip line has gotten a thousand calls, and fielded just over 200 complaints. He says the tips have produced one criminal case. Plan Focuses on Clean Energy For the Dairy State

Governor Evers’ climate change plan would mean huge changes for where Wisconsin gets its electricity. The governor yesterday released his Clean Energy Plan.  The proposal would boost investment in solar and wind projects, push more people toward electric cars, and aims to have the state carbon neutral by 2050. But accomplishing that may be difficult. Wisconsin gets just over 40 percent of its electricity from coal, and another 35 percent from natural gas. Wheels Up, Masks Down at Local Airport

The mask requirements at Eau Claire’s airport and on city buses are no more. Managers at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport on Monday said they will allow flyers to come and go without masks. Managers at La Crosse’s airport said the same thing. Eau Claire’s city buses are also dropping their mask requirements. Eau Claire Transit Manager Thomas Wagener says masks are recommended, but not required.

Petition Dives Into Saving Local Pool

There is a push to save the pool in Chippewa Falls. A local woman, Katie Crise, has started an online petition to save the Bernard Willi Pool. City leaders earlier this month announced plans to close the pool for good after this summer, saying it’d cost too much to repair or replace the pool. Crise says people need a place to go and relax during the summer. She says over 900 people have signed her petition so far. She plans

Family Looks to Honor Their Son in Waukesha

There’s an effort underway in Waukesha to build a new baseball field to honor the youngest victim of the Waukesha Christmas Parade attack. Jackson Sparks’ family wants to renovate the field where he used to play, and call it the Sparks Complex. The project has a one-point-three million-dollar price tag, and the hope is to have the renovation complete by next summer.  City planners in Waukesha are waiting to approve the idea.

Brother of Bomber Runs Boston Marathon

 The brother of a Boston Marathon bombing victim is planning to run the race again.  Henry Richard said that after crossing the finish line Monday.  He did it at almost the exact time two bombs went off in 2013, killing his eight-year-old brother and two others.  He said he did it for Martin and their entire family.  He was among nearly 30-thousand people who took part, representing every state and more than 120 countries.
