Designers Unveil Museum Plans

We are getting a new look at what the Milwaukee Public Museum could look like. Designers unveiled a new rendering of the planned museum yesterday. It has a white exterior, with a wind-swept look. Designers say they pulled inspiration from Wisconsin’s natural features as well as Milwaukee’s rivers. The museum is to be built in Milwaukee’s Haymarket neighborhood for a cost of about 240 million-dollars.

AG Kaul In Fundraising Lead

Incumbent Democrat Wisconsin AG Josh Kaul is way ahead of his Republican challengers in fundraising.  Campaign finance reports show Kaul raised 860-thousand dollars in the last three months.  Republican ex-Assemblyman Adam Jarchow brought in 400 grand while Fond du Lac DA Eric Toney took in 100-thousand.  Toney, Jarchow, and Karen Mueller face each other next month in the GOP primary.

Milwaukee Alderwoman Pleads Guilty

Milwaukee Alderwoman Chantia Lewis is no longer in office after admitting to misconduct in public office.  Lewis pleaded guilty in Milwaukee County Circuit Court today while also entering a no contest plea to campaign finance violations.  Prosecutors say she took family trips using campaign funds and “double dipped” by asking for reimbursement on items paid by campaign funds.  Sentencing is next month.

Park Passes Made Easy

Eau Claire County is making it easier to pay for park use. The county’s parks department installed credit card kiosks at Big Falls, Lake Altoona, and Lowes Creek Park. Parks managers say the kiosks allow people to buy single day or annual passes for the park. Daily passes cost five dollars, while yearly passes cost 30 bucks.

Another Northern Wisconsin State Fair is in the books. The fair in Chippewa Falls ended yesterday. Executive Director Rusty Volk says he thinks this year’s fair will get close to last year’s 110 thousand-person attendance mark. Volk says this year’s extra day may have helped those attendance numbers just a bit.

Milwaukee Sees Deadly Weekend

Milwaukee’s weekend tally includes 11 shootings and three people killed. Milwaukee Police say the violence started Friday morning when a two-year-old was shot and killed, and continued through early yesterday morning. In all, police say 11 people were shot, three of them died. Six of those shootings came on Saturday, including a double shooting that left one person dead.

Family of WI Gunman Plans to Sue

The family of the man who police say started a deadly shootout at the El Rey grocery store is planning to sue. Luis Lorenzo’s family yesterday said they plan to file lawsuits against El Rey and Marshal Public Safety, which is the company that hired the two security guards involved in the shooting. Republican National Convention Sets WI Stage

Milwaukee is updating its convention plan, this time for the Republicans. An RNC planning committee on Friday picked Milwaukee to host the 2024 Republican National Convention. Milwaukee beat-out Nashville, which saw some opposition from local Democratic leaders. Milwaukee will largely use the plan first put together for the Democratic National Convention in 2020. The convention didn’t happen because of the coronavirus. The RNC is planned for the summer of 2024.

Democrats Debate

Voters got their first side-by-side look at the Democrats running for U.S. Senate. Five of the candidates debated last night in Milwaukee. Most of the talk was, predictably, about abortion and what they would do to reinstate abortion in Wisconsin. They also took shots at Republican Senator Ron Johnson. Polls show frontrunner Mandela Barnes with a slight lead over newcomer Alex Lasry. State Treasurer Sara Godlewski, Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson, and non-profit leader Steven Olikara trail in the polls.
