School choice supporters like the trend they see in the latest Marquette Law School Poll. The new poll, released this week, says 58 percent of voters in Wisconsin support the idea of ending limits on vouchers for private or religious schools. That would open up school choice to more than just low-income families in many parts of Wisconsin. The poll says 33 percent of voters oppose the idea. Wisconsin is investigating four cases of kids with mysterious liver damage. The state’s Department of Health Services issued a health alert on Wednesday about a ‘recent increase in cases’ of acute hepatitis and adenovirus infections in children. One of the kids who got sick required a liver transplant, another child died. Wisconsin is not alone in seeing the liver cases. Three other states have also reported mysterious illnesses there.

One of Wisconsin’s smallest and poorest counties is also the state’s least healthy. The new University of Wisconsin’s Population Health Institute report says Menominee County in the northeastern part of the state is dead last in their rankings. The report states that 27 percent of people in the county are in poor or fair health, and just five percent of people have access to exercise equipment. Wisconsin is heading into the weekend with about 200 people in the hospital with the coronavirus. The state’s Hospital Association yesterday said 203 people are hospitalized with the virus, including 35 in the ICU. Wisconsin’s hospitalization numbers have ticked-up this month after hitting a low of just under 150 in March.

A downtown La Crosse building collapses during an early morning fire.  The fire broke out at the India Curry House on 4th Street around 4:00 a.m.  The fire continued to grow for hours after firefighters arrived and eventually caused the building to collapse.  It’s unclear if anyone’s hurt.

Jury selection is underway in the case of a mother and daughter accused of killing a teen girl in Iowa County.  Police say Laurie and Alexis Barry were taking care of 13-year-old Selah Kaden back in 2018 when she died of suffocation.  An autopsy showed she also had blunt force trauma to the head.  The suspects’ trial will start in two weeks.

Investigators say a California man accused of grooming kids for child porn has victims in Wisconsin. Authorities in Sacramento arrested 24-year-old Demetrius Davis this week. They say he created a fake social media profile, then convinced children in 11 states to send him sexually explicit pictures or videos. In Wisconsin, investigators say he has three victims in Appleton, Oshkosh, and Janesville. Authorities say Davis communicated with his victims for nearly two years using the name Lilly, ending back in December. They are
