A woman from Wausau is charged with making false statements during the purchase of a gun.  The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Wisconsin says Ashley Zastrow lied while purchasing two guns from a federally licensed dealer back in January.  She’s accused of saying the guns were for her when they were actually for someone else, known as a straw purchase.  She faces five years in federal prison.

The man who ran down three Chippewa Valley Girl Scouts will not get a new trial.  An appeals court yesterday rejected Colton Treu’s request for a new trial. He pleaded guilty to running down the three girls and one of their mom’s back in 2018. He claimed his lawyers didn’t tell him enough about the plea, and told the judges that he wanted his trial moved out of Chippewa County. The appeals court said any mistakes were on Treu’s part,

An Eau Claire man is dead after jumping into Lake Superior. Police officers in La Pointe say they got a call Sunday afternoon about a man in the water. Officers say the man jumped off the Eagles Nest within Big Bay State Park and didn’t resurface. His body was found yesterday afternoon.

There’s a body that likely belongs to the empty fishing boat found in the St. Croix River yesterday. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office yesterday said they found a body downriver from that empty boat. There’s no name yet, but investigators say the body is of a 43-year-old man White Bear Lake, Minnesota. His family says the man frequently fished that stretch of the river. Deputies say he was recovered without a life jacket.

It wasn’t all cream puffs and rides at the Wisconsin State Fair last weekend. Police responded to at least 10 fights on Saturday alone. No one is saying anything about arrests or injuries. State Fair managers say they are going to make sure that everyone knows the policy that requires anyone under 18 to have a parent with them, and bans anyone under 21 from the fairgrounds after 6 p.m.. Republican Tim Ramthun says he’s going to challenge today’s vote count. Ramthun yesterday said he wants to have the primary election results audited before he decides what to do next. Ramthun is running a distant third in the Republican race for governor, but he’s made overturning the 2020 election results in Wisconsin the focus of his campaign. Ramthun said he also wants the results in Assembly Speaker Robin Vos’ race checked as well.
