WI Natives Headed to Bobble

Wisconsin natives and U.S. Olympic curlers John Schuster and Matt Hamilton are getting the bobblehead treatment.  The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum recently unveiled limited addition bobbleheads of the gold medalist curlers.  They’re available on the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum website for 30 dollars each.

The Cheese Stands Alone: Winner Crowned

Wisconsin’s cheeses got shut-out at this year’s World Championship Cheese Contest. Cheesemakers named the winners yesterday, and none of them are from Wisconsin. The state saw the most finalists of any area in the contest, but couldn’t land a top prize. This year’s “big cheese” is a gruyere from Switzerland. The runner-up was an Appenzeller, also from Switzerland.

Traffic a Concern With Trucker Convoy

They’re getting ready in Tomah for one of the country’s trucker convoys. Hundreds of truckers are expected in Oakdale in Monroe County this afternoon. To avoid any problems, Tomah Schools are letting students go home two-hours early. Monroe County’s sheriff says they are also keeping an eye on things. The biggest worry is traffic as hundreds of truckers head down I-94.

New City Manager Named

Eau Claire has a new city manager. The city council yesterday said Stephanie Hirsch is their choice to lead the city. Hirsch is currently the operations administrator for the Eau Claire County Department of Human Services, Eau Claire has been without a full time city manager for almost two years. The city hopes to finalize her contract next week, she’s slated to take over in April.

Eau Claire Plans Listening Sessions for Referendum; Poll Asks About Public Schools

Eau Claire Schools are ready to hear from voters about their potential new referendum. The city’s school district yesterday announced four listening sessions for people to have a chance to weigh-in. There’s no official price tag because school leaders have not yet settled on just what they want to build with the referendum. The hope is to have the referendum on the ballot in November. WI New Political Map Decided

Wisconsin’s new political map will have Governor Tony Evers’ name on it. The state’s Supreme Court yesterday decided to go with the governor’s design for statehouse and congressional seats. Swing Justice Brian Hagedorn said the governor’s map moved the fewest number of people around. The governor’s map also gives Democrats in the state a better chance in a handful of races, including two races for Congress. WI Coronavirus Hospitalizations Drop Below 500

There are now fewer than 500 people in the hospital with the coronavirus in Wisconsin. The state’s Hospital Association says hospitalizations dropped again yesterday. There are now just 474 people in the hospital with the virus, that includes just 83 in the ICU.

Shipwreck Found at Bottom of Lake Superior

Another shipwreck has been found at the bottom of Lake Superior. Crews say they found what’s left of the Atlanta, a ship that went down in 1891. The wreck is off the coast of the UP, and isn’t far from Deer Park, Michigan. The Atlanta sank in a storm back in 1891, only two of its crew members survived.

Governor’s Mansions Lights Up for Ukraine

 The governor’s mansion is lit-up in blue and yellow in the latest show of unity with Ukraine. Governor Tony Evers ordered the new lights yesterday.  Governor Evers says he is keeping the people of Ukraine in his thoughts and prayers. The mansion will stay lit in Ukraine’s national colors “for the foreseeable future.”
