Avian Flu Prompts Local Warning

 The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has announced a confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial poultry flock in Jefferson County. Avian influenza is a virus that affects a wide variety of birds; like a flu virus, it can change or mutate. HPAI is of great concern because it is highly contagious and can be fatal to poultry. WI Dentist Faces “Ahhh-Lot” of Lawsuits, Prison Time

A Grafton dentist could be headed to prison for as many as 20 years as part of a broken-tooth scam. A jury last week found dentist Scott Charmoli guilty of fraud. Prosecutors say he would scam people into thinking they needed a crown by showing them an x-ray, then by intentionally breaking their teeth. He would then bill insurance. Body Found Along WI Walking Path

A dead body was found along a walking path in southwest Wisconsin.  The Richland Center Police Department says officers were called to the Pine River Prairie area Sunday where a person was found dead in the tall grass.  Police say it looks like the person was reported missing back in November.  No foul play is suspected.

Trial Underway in Homicide Case

Prosecutors in Tomah will begin their case later today against a man accused of beating his girlfriend’s child to death. A jury was selected in 37-year-old Marcus Anderson’s trial. Police say he beat the three-year-old boy to death back in 2019. No one is saying why. Anderson is looking at first degree homicide charges. His trial is expected to last a week.

Violence Continues in Milwaukee

Milwaukee’s violent month is not slowing down. Police say they are looking into a deadly double shooting from last night. The shooting happened in the 26 hundred block of South 9th. Investigators say a 32-year-old man suffered life threatening injuries and died at the hospital. A 33-year-old man was wounded, but is expected to survive. Last night’s double shooting was the third in two days in Milwaukee. Police say there were two double shootings Sunday as well.

Foxconn Fail?

There’s another story about a failed bid to build things at Foxconn’s plant in Racine County. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel yesterday reported that Foxconn rebuffed an offer from Oshkosh Defense to build new postal vehicles at the still-empty facility in Mount Pleasant. Senator Ron Johnson is quoted as saying Oshkosh was looking to lease an existing manufacturing site, and reached out to Foxconn, but a deal never happened. WI Senator Pushes for Study on Bail

Wisconsin’s Republican U.S. Senator wants a federal study on low bail following the Waukesha Christmas Parade attack. Senator Ron Johnson yesterday introduced legislation that would have the Justice Department look into how states are setting bails or keeping suspects in jail. Gift Looks to Build Habitat Cause in La Crosse

Habitat for Humanity in La Crosse says they received a two million-dollar gift from Author MacKenzie Scott. Scott is actually giving 436 million-dollars to Habitat, nationally. La Crosse has been singled-out for two million-dollars of that money. La Crosse Habitat Executive Director Kahya Fox says the two million-dollars is ‘transformational’ money.
