Gov. Evers Veto’s Republican Riot Proposal

Prosecutors in Wisconsin will not be able to add charges against protesters when their protests turn violent. Governor Evers yesterday vetoed the proposal from Republican lawmakers. The idea was to allow for misdemeanor charges against anyone who attended a protest that turned into a riot, and allow for felony charges against anyone who participated in the riot. The governor said Wisconsin already has laws that cover unlawful assemblies and violence. He said this plan could have infringed on people’s First Amendment rights.

Voters Across WI To See Tax Questions on Ballot

A lot of voters across the state are looking at tax questions on their ballot next week. Eighty one school districts in Wisconsin are asking for over a billion-dollars in school referendum questions in Tuesday’s election. About half of the questions look to borrow money, while the other half want to spend more than state law allows.

Bald Eagle Tests Positive for Bird Flu

A bald eagle in Dane County has tested positive for the bird flu. The state’s Department of Natural Resources says the bird flu has turned-up in a handful of wild birds in several counties across the state. The announcement comes as Wisconsin is working to contain a bird flu outbreak at a chicken farm in Jefferson County. Johnny Davis will not be back at Wisconsin next season. The Badger’s standout guard declared for the NBA Draft yesterday. Davis is a finalist for the college basketball player of the year, and led the Badgers with nearly 20 points per-game last season. Some NBA analysts say Davis is a top-ten pick in this year’s NBA Draft.

Chippewa Co. Sheriffs Office Recovers Stolen Items, Juveniles Face Charges

Authorities have items recovered after a series of break ins.   The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office received reports of vehicles being entered and items taken without the owner’s consent on multiple days in March 2022. The thefts were reported in the Town of Lafayette. The area is also known as “Wissota Woods.” The Sheriff’s Office thanks a resident that provided surveillance of the offenders attempting to enter vehicles. Accident Reconstruction Underway in Lake Hallie

Hwy 53 reopened after an accident shut down the road.   A pickup was struck by debris/trailer and two individuals were transported to a local hospital. The semi-tractor trailer was hauling scrap metal. The driver of semi-tractor trailer was transported to a local hospital and will be issued a citation for Failure to maintain proper control of a vehicle. The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting the Lake Hallie Police with the inspection of the semi-tractor trailer and accident reconstruction.
