Former High School Teacher Denies Assault Allegations

A former Appleton high school teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student is denying the allegations in court.  Rebecca Ryan pleaded not guilty to three counts of sexual assault of a student yesterday.  Investigators say Ryan was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a victim who was 17 years old at the time.  She is scheduled to return to court on September second.

Funeral Arrangements Set for Fallen Officer

Funeral arrangements are now set for the Milwaukee police officer who was shot to death in the line of duty.  A public visitation for Officer Kendall Corder is planned for next Friday, July eleventh.  It is happening at Elmbrook Church in Brookfield from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the memorial service to follow.  Corder and his partner, Officer Christopher McCray, were shot by a suspect while responding to a call on Thursday night of last week.  McCray was hospitalized

DNR Reminder for UTV, Boat Safety

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is urging residents to stay sober while using off-road vehicles over this Fourth of July weekend.  Officials say nearly 20 people in the state have died in ATV and UTV crashes so far this year, with speed and alcohol contributing to some of those accidents.  DNR is also partnering with law enforcement for Operation Dry Water through this weekend.  That is a nationwide effort meant to curb boating while intoxicated.

WI Supreme Court Strikes Down Abortion Ban

The Wisconsin Supreme Court is blocking a state abortion ban from going into effect. The 1849 near-total abortion ban had technically retaken effect after the Supreme Court overturned federal abortion rights, however, abortion providers in the state resumed the procedure in 2023 after a judge ruled the ban was superseded by a more recent law. Bond For Man Accused Of Shooting, Killing Milwaukee Officer Held On $500K Bail

The man accused of shooting and killing one Milwaukee officer and injuring another is being held of a 500-thousand-dollar bond. The two officers, Kendall Corder and Christopher McCray, responded to reports of shots fired last Thursday to what Milwaukee Police are calling an ambush. Both officers were shot. Corder succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, and McCray has been released from the hospital. Fugitive Found Hiding in Closet

A fugitive who was on the run for almost two decades was arrested in Wisconsin after he was found hiding in a closet. US Marshals say Agustin Rivera-Contreras was hiding under a pile of clothes in an Oconomowoc home. An arrest warrant has been active for the suspect since 2007, when he was accused of violating conditions of his release in Texas and being in the country illegally. WI Pheasant Population Growing

The pheasant population is growing in Wisconsin. The Department of Natural Resources says data collected during its Spring 2025 Survey show pheasant numbers growing for the second year in a row. Results of the ruffed grouse survey show a slight decrease from 2024, but the population is still higher than the five-year-average. Pheasant and ruffed grouse hunting seasons start in September and October.
