We should learn the price tag for Eau Claire Schools’ referendum later tonight. The city’s school board is set to meet tonight, and should set the price for the tax increase question that will be on the November ballot. Violent Weekend In Milwaukee

It was a violent Saturday in Milwaukee. Seven of the nine people shot over the weekend in Milwaukee were shot on Saturday. That includes a double shooting that left one person dead. Police say there were also shootings on Friday and Sunday. Milwaukee Police are on pace to see nearly a thousand non-fatal shootings this year.

Ear Plugs Out, Chainsaws Off

You don’t need ear plugs in Carson Park anymore. The park was home to the US Open Chainsaw Sculpture Championship over the weekend. Dozens of artists competed and showcased their skills. Eau Claire has been home to the Championship for years. The plan is to host it at Carson Park every other year going forward.

WI Hospitalizations Holding Steady

There are just over 500 people in the hospital with the coronavirus in Wisconsin. The state’s Hospital Association on Friday said 522 people are in the hospital with the virus, including 76 in the ICU. Wisconsin has seen more than 500 people in the hospital with the virus for the past week or so. It is the beginning of the end of the investigation into Wisconsin’s 2020 presidential election. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos fired former Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman on Friday, saying Gableman initially did a good job, but then ‘kind of got off the rails.’ Gableman looked into inconsistencies and questions about the 2020 election, but was never able to answer some of those questions because of opposition from the mayors in Green Bay and Madison. The backdrop for Wisconsin’s entry into the best looking police cruiser contest sets the state apart. The State Patrol parked a cruiser and a motorcycle in front of Milwaukee’s art museum for the annual photoshoot and contest. People across the country will pick the best looking vehicles. Some states, like Illinois, come-up with unique designs for the contest. Wisconsin is going with the standard paint jobs for the cars and bikes you’d see on the highway each and every day.

Madison Slated for CHIPS Investment

The Madison area is included as one of 20-regions for CHIPS Act investment.  The CHIPS and Science Act was signed into law on Tuesday by President Joe Biden to provide capital investment funds in the billions of dollars for technological development and manufacturing.  WMTV reported yesterday that Madison Chamber of Commerce President Zach Brandon says the expected infusion of capital has the potential to propel the Madison area into prominence as a technology hub.

Johnson Sets Up Campaign Offices Across WI

Senator Ron Johnson is setting up re-election campaign offices around the state including one in Rock County.  Yesterday the Republican lawmaker was joined by dozens of supporters in Beloit to launch his campaign headquarters for Rock County.  Johnson said he seeks a third term in Congress to expose corruption and to “find areas of agreement” in order to bring about bi-partisan measures.  The Senator has plans to open a dozen more campaign offices around the state this coming week.
