Barron County Sheriff’s Department and Northwood Technical College have partnered together to offer an HSED program at the Barron County Jail. This past 2021 fall semester and 2022 spring semester 7 students completed their HSED requirements, 4 of which have completed their entire HSED while here this spring. Authorities passed on many thanks to the support of Northwood Technical College and Instructor Mike Larson to help make this possible and promote a successful community.

The Milwaukee Bucks organization is canceling the watch party for Game Seven of the NBA playoffs.  Yesterday, the Bucks statement said the event which was planned for this Sunday is canceled after Friday night’s shootings in the Deer District near Fiserv Forum.  The entertainment businesses including bars and restaurants in the Deer District will remain open.  Also yesterday, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson issued a curfew for those under 21 for Saturday and Sunday night starting at 11:00-p.m. each night.

Hundreds of pro-abortion rights demonstrators gather in Madison to protest the Supreme Court’s possible overturning of Roe v Wade.  Police in Madison estimate there were 15-hundred or so protesters at the rally sponsored by Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin yesterday afternoon in front of the State Capitol.  Governor Tony Evers and Senator Tammy Baldwin used the rally to advocate in favor of preserving abortion rights.

The Wisconsin Army National Guard has a new Deputy Adjutant General.   In Friday’s changing of the guard ceremony held at the Wisconsin Department of Army Affairs in Madison, Brigadier General Matthew Strub was installed as the new Deputy Adjutant General.  Strub takes over command of the guard’s more than seven thousand citizen soldiers after the retirement of Brigadier General Joane Mathews.  General Mathews is the first female and first Native American to serve as Deputy Adjutant General of the Wisconsin Army National Guard.

The Cedarburg Strawberry Festival is making a comeback. The event returns this summer after getting canceled the past two years because of the COVID-19 emergency measures.  The festival happens June 25 and 26 in downtown Cedarburg.   The Festivals of Cedarburg Facebook page has the details.

We will show you different sides so you can decide.  An anti-abortion advocacy organization in Madison is dealing with multiple threats.  A statement yesterday by Wisconsin Family Action says the group has been getting multiple threats by telephone at the office and on staff members’ personal phones.  The phone threats have been coming in daily since the group’s office location was vandalized and firebombed this past

State agriculture and natural resources officials say three foxes have tested positive for bird flu.  Lindsey Long with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says the foxes most likely fed on carcasses of wild birds that were infected.   The report says the infected foxes are in different sections of the state.  So far in Wisconsin there have been no reports of any domestic mammalian animals that have come down with the avian flu. 

Six people are being charged in connection with the deadly 2017 explosion at the Didion Milling Inc. plant in Cambria.  The Wisconsin Department of Justice says a federal grand jury accuses the company of violating two OSHA standards.  The Didion Milling vice president of operations, former food safety superintendent, two former environmental coordinators, and two former shift superintendents are all facing various charges.

A sheriff’s deputy in northern Wisconsin escapes his squad car after it breaks through the pavement during a flash flood.  The Oconto County sheriff’s deputy was driving to help a person involved in a crash when the pavement over a culvert pipe gave way and his car fell into the water and was swept away.  The deputy and his K9 made it out of the car without injury.
