The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is seeking assistance in locating a dog that bit a woman on Monday, May 16 th, 2022, at approximately 3:30 p.m. The bite occurred at the Otter Creek Dog Park in Eau Claire. The dog was described as a large sized, mountain dog type breed with long, black hair. At the time, no owner was observed with the dog. Wisconsin U.S. Senate candidate Alex Lasry is getting an extension to report his financial assets.  Lasry originally missed the Monday deadline but was recently granted a 90-day extension after asking for more time to file.  Lasry is currently on leave as an executive with the Milwaukee Bucks and reportedly has over 50-million dollars in real estate and ownership stake in the team.  His extension means he won’t have to report his financial assets until August 15th, after the primary election.

A casino is another step closer to being built in Beloit Recently the Bureau of Indian Affairs approved putting 33 acres of land in Beloit into a trust so the casino can be built.  The Ho-Chunk Nation now owns 70 acres of land in the city where it plans to build a casino with a hotel, waterpark, and restaurants.  Ho-Chunk leaders say the casino will bring in thousands of jobs to the area.

The trial for the young man accused of killing two people at the UW Arboretum back in 2020 is underway. Prosecutors and the defense yesterday picked a jury in 20-year-old Khari Sanford’s trial. Police say he kidnapped, then murdered his then-girlfriend’s parents in March of 2020. Investigators say the murders may have started as a disagreement about COVID protocols. Opening statements are expected in the case later today.

Madison’s newest micro school has just four students, but has a singular focus. The school district says its new Anti-Racist Learning Laboratory focuses on systemic racism and racial profiling. School co-creator and UW professor Maxine McKinney De Royston, says the idea is to give black kids and other minority groups a sense of belonging. There will continue to be watch parties in the Deer Districts, but there will be some changes. Milwaukee Bucks President Peter Feigin yesterday said he’s been talking with Milwaukee’s mayor about improving safety around the area near Fiserv Forum. Friday saw three shootings near Fiserv that left 21 people injured. Feigin said one idea is to expand the perimeter around the Deer District. The Bucks canceled Sunday’s watch party, but Feigin yesterday said those will return.

More counties with high coronavirus activities are in western Wisconsin. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said people in the seven counties in Wisconsin with high coronavirus levels should mask-up indoors. Those counties include Vernon, La Crosse, and Monroe, and Barron and Rusk, as well as Kenosha and Racine in southeastern Wisconsin. Eau Claire’s Nestle plant says its stepped-up production to meet the nation’s baby formula shortage. A spokesman says the plant has ‘significantly increased’ the amount of formula it is making. The surge comes as stores say 40 to 50 percent of their stock has been sold, and as parents say they are having trouble finding the formula that their babies need.

Three airlines are interested in flying out of Eau Claire’s airport.  Managers at the Chippewa Valley Airport yesterday said Sun Country Airlines, Southern Airways Express, and Boutique Air have all applied to take over for SkyWest when it stops service. All three are promising flights to Minneapolis, Sun Country is proposing seasonal flights to Orlando, Ft Myers and Las Vegas, and Southern is promising flights to Chicago.
