One of Wisconsin’s congressmen is among those asking that the federal government stop agribusiness mergers. Madison Democrat Mark Pocan introduced the Food and Agribusiness Merger Moratorium and Antitrust Review Act. It would prevent big farm and food companies from combining. Pocan is blaming consolidation among farm and food companies for price spikes and the country’s baby formula shortage. He said Congress must do more to help customers afford the basics that they need.

The search continues after a man went under the water and didn’t resurface. It was at 3:23 p.m. on Tuesday May 17th, when multiple agencies responded to Riverside Park, 890 Hudson Road in the City of Menomonie. Dunn County 911 had received a report of a 23 year-old-man who went under the water while swimming in the Red Cedar River, but never came up. His friends attempted to save him but they could not get to him in time. The

Investigators in Barron have identified the people killed in last week’s house fire. The city’s police chief yesterday said 44-year-old Donald Albee, six-year-old Conner Albee and five-year-old Emily Albee all died in that fire last Thursday. Donald Albee’s girlfriend, the woman who owned the home, escaped with just minor injuries. An autopsy says it appears the children died from smoke inhalation. No one is saying what caused the fire.

Goats could become a permanent part of Wausau’s park management plan . A city committee last night okayed a new ordinance that would allow for goats inside the city limits. Wausau used a herd of goats last year to get rid of invasive plants at the park on Barker-Stewert Island. The goats simply ate the plants. Park managers say the new ordinance would give them the option to use the goats each year, or at different parks in the city.

Wisconsin’s attorney general says his investigation into clergy sex abuse has led to new charges in one case. A-G Josh Kaul yesterday said prosecutors in Douglas County have filed charges against a former Minnesota priest who is accused of sexually abusing three young boys at a cabin in Summit, Wisconsin between 2005 and 2010. This is the second criminal case to come from Kaul’s investigation. Prosecutors in Waushara County are also pursuing charges from the investigation. Kaul says over 200 reports came

Eau Claire’s downtown movie theater is changing things up for the summer. Managers at the Micon Cinema say they will switch to new movies for the summer. GM Dan Olson says they will make the switch with the premier of the new Top Gun movie next week. He says with people returning downtown, they want to try and offer people another choice. The downtown theater had been running older and familiar movies, but Olson says times have changed.

School leaders in Kiel are defending their decision to push a sexual harassment complaint against three middle schoolers for using the wrong gender words. Kiel Area Schools Administrator Brad Ebert sent a note home to parents yesterday explaining that they had no choice but to push ahead with the case. UW-Madison’s new chancellor isn’t saying much about opposition from Republican lawmakers. Jennifer Mnookin spoke with reporters yesterday, but didn’t have any answers for questions about Republicans who said she is a ‘ridiculous choice’ to lead the campus.
