Overnight Crimes Under Investigation in Chippewa

Police in Chippewa Falls are looking into multiple crimes committed in the area. Chief of police Ryan Douglas said that multiple residents on the east side of town reported their mailboxes were damaged. Rural Street seems to be the center of all the damaged mailboxes. New Count Shows Decrease in Homeless Population

The number of people found homeless in Western Wisconsin during the semi-annual count has fallen. From January 22nd through the 29th, volunteers found 34 people without a home. The number is a big decrease from 104 last July. Everyone who participated gave basic information and a name to the volunteers. Sixteen people who did not provide enough information were not included. The count was run by community members representing over 28 organizations. The next count will take place July 23rd.

Marshfield Officials Look to Public for Increased Funding

Marshfield fire officials are looking for support from the community and asking for an increase in funding. Since 2000, the number of emergency calls have increased to almost 50 percent. The new referendum will come at a cost as taxes will go up anywhere from 26 to 33 dollars. New Proposal to Bump Hunting, Fishing License Fees

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers is proposing to increase fees for hunting and fishing licenses in his new budget proposal. Most of the licenses would go up by 10 to 20 dollars. This would include small game, deer, fishing and wild turkey licenses. Fees have not increased since 2005.

Local Counselor Awarded

Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and the Wisconsin School Counselor Association has awarded Bobby Phillips of Mound View Elementary, the inaugural Program of Excellence Award. The award commends those who have used data to create a school counseling program that has a positive impact on the school community. Schools that have this award are eligible for the American School Counselor Associations RAMP designation. That is the highest national recognition for a school counseling program. Man Sentenced in Drug Trafficking Ring

A Wisconsin man is sentenced to 14 years in prison on drug charges. The Central Wisconsin Narcotics Task Force started looking into 44-year-old Tommie Haney in 2022.  Investigators say he was found to be a leader in a drug trafficking organization in Wausau. Eight other suspects were charged alongside Haney.  After his sentence is finished, Haney will have five years of supervised release.

WI Treasurer Arrested, Facing Charges of Theft

A Wisconsin city treasurer is arrested and accused of stealing almost 300-thousand dollars from a Monroe County town. Investigators say Kelly Schleusener, the Town of Adrian treasurer, has allegedly been stealing money from the township’s account since 2022. She was arrested yesterday and is in the Monroe County Jail. An investigation is ongoing, and she’ll have a bond hearing tomorrow afternoon.

Middle School Boat Races Take Over YMCA Pool

On Thursday, February 27 from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM the Bloomer Middle School will be hosting Cardboard Box Boat Races at the Chippewa Falls YMCA in the pool. The students worked hard to create boats and they will be putting them to the test tomorrow afternoon testing their skills and cheering on their boats!
